The good ones seem to be about 100.00 at camping shops. They have a cassette thingy that is closed off, you must just take that cassette out and go empty it. I wondered how too as I thought dump points had a hose thingee to attach the van too for normal toilets. Are they easy to empty and rinse?
I intend getting one too and having a cushion top seat made for it so it just looks like an extra seat.

Yes they are easy to rinse. They can be a bit heavy though. Ellie ca'nt manage the dumping bit these days. Although I dont have a problem with the weight of the cassette
Hav'nt got one at present, will be buying another in the near future. The New Avan Cruise liner has room for carrying it.
But Please- Please, dont rinse them with the water taps that people use for drinking water.
There are (should be) rinse taps at the designated "Dump Points"
I submitted a post about this disgusting practice earlier this year.
I have seen two instances in the last eighteen months, of people rinsing them out with the drinking water taps in their C/P camping bay. Tap inside the dump spout. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. And yes I did go Grrrrrrrr Grrrrrrrr to both people.
If your worried about the weight --- they come in two sizes --- 10 ltr & 20 ltr have had a 10 ltr for ages --- their great if away from ammenites --- just use a bottle and the porta-loo when needed.
cheers

If you are worried about the weight empty more often don't wait till it is full, new dump sites have a good set up open the large lid empty the content and they have a short hose for you to flush the the cassette into the pit , we use nappy san in our porta potti
Hi, we had a porta potti that came with the second hand caravan we bought but it didn't fit under the bed when put together. So once we had used it - we had to keep it on the floor of the caravan till we stopped then put it outside till we moved off again. We have now bought a smaller one that will fit in the storage area under the bed when 'together'. The porta potti has been great for freedom camping when there is no toilet available (or they are so bad you really don't want to use them). We bought one of those pop up ensuite tents too. Emptying the porta potti is easy as 'brickies' has mentioned. Make sure the one you buy fits the storage space available. Cheers
Remember the cassette tank of a Porta potti is still smaller than the tank of the toilet of a en suite toilet in caravan or motorhome. we all know our limits and empty at a level that we can handle
Thanks for all your great advice, some things there I didn't know before. The portaloo I looked at in our local camping shop looked quite small in the cassette area, in other words didn't think it would be that heavy, will go have another look.
