Stable towing

Hi all, we have just purchased a 20 ft Roadstar full van and will be towing with a 4x4 toyota landcruiser ute, would like some suggestions as to the best stabiliser setup, all ideas would be appreciated

Hi ..

I asume that the ute is rated to pull the weight of the roadstar & handle its ball weight.  Also assuming that the ute's hitch is similarly rated as OK.
Roadstars are great vans.  The older ones used to be sturdier (heavier) than some, along with heavy ball weights.  But none the less great vans.  I particularly like their layouts.

That being the case then I would strongly recommend a dealer fitted Hayman Reece (HR) weight distribution hitch (WDH).  I've had mine for 13yrs & the Patrol pulls the 21'6" Jayco like a dream.

If that option is too expensive then Coast to Coast have a very good but cheaper "load distribution hitch'.  It is similar to the HR WDH but with far fewer adjustments.  The head of this hitch is selected according to the relative height of your van and vehicle.  My daughter uses one on her Xtrail & Jayco poptop with no problems.

The more expensive HR WDH is a universal one that can be moved from vehicle to vehicle/ van to van, requiring only re adjusting.

Althoud not cheap a HR WDH will last you a life time and can be used on future vehicles and vans. What price does one put on safety.
I wouldn't tow without one.
Cheers, ozjohn.

Don't discount the EAZ-Lift bars. They have only recently been introduced to Oz but are equally good as the HR ones. See this link
