Booth Type Dinette

Our van has a booth type dinette - which is fine most of the time - however, it can be hard to slide out at times. We are contemplating getting it altered to a three-fold table that seem to be 'the go' in all the new vans. Would like some feedback please as to how others have faired with the three fold tables.

Ta and thank you

Pete & June

We have one of those "L" shaped dinettes PJ.  You think the booth type one is hard to get in and out of you should try one of these.   Personal choice I suppose but it came with the van.

We have been doing a lot of looking at new vans since we have been away and the booth type with the bi-fold table is definitely the way to go for us in the future

The "L" shaped dinnette, my main gripe about our caravan/home, especially on rainy days.
Thankfully we have a king size bed to sit on & using 2 old fashion material covered bean bags for backrests which substitute admirably for lounge chairs.

Would love 2 swivel chairs instead of the bench but the battery setup is under the bench which makes it awkward to change.

Cheers
Jon

We have taken the fixed table out of our van and use 2 small fold up tables which can also be used outside if needed. Access to the seating is easy as you can move the table to suit

We have taken the table out of the booth as it was a tight squeeze for us too. It was used as a base for another bed if needed but as there is usually just the two of us, we don't need it. Hubby made a smaller table using the pedestal from an old table and put a smaller top on it. Just right for two. We mainly eat outside.  When travelling we just lean it on one of the seats for safety.

What's this booth type dinette you are talking about. Is it the cafe dinette with two parallel benches with a table between? Alternately are you talking about the club dinette which has a U shaped seat with a table in the middle. Please use the correct terms.

Our current van has a cafe dinette. One seat goes nearly right across the rear of the van (a tall cupboard, 450 mm wide fills the rest.) The other (front) seat is half the lengto of the rear seat. To the front of the van next to the dinette is a back of the seat high cupboard (pantry) and further forward is the fridge. We find this is an excellent arrangement. For meal times we sit opposite each other. After dinner we can both sit on the long seat and watch the TV which resides on the pantry. I sit in the corner with my laptop and there is still enough table for the cook to place her craftwork on.

Our previous van had an L shaped dinette. The TV was mounted on the fridge and thus was too high for comfortable viewing (no low height pantry because of the different dinette.)  Also the cook either had to turn her head to look at the TV or come down to the rear seat and not have any table for her craft work. For us the cafe dinette works much better.

My apologies Peter D - yes I meant a cafe booth type dinette, like they had in the old fashioned milk bars!! Maybe that was before your time - anyway thank you one and all, you have made up our minds for us, and I shall be heading down to our friendly caravan repair man this morning to book our van in for a few days 'treatment'.

Hiya Peja, we scoured the caravan show in Brisvegas last June, and one of the things on the top of the list to check was the "dining area"  After checking them all out, we decided on  the three fold table, as during the day, they can be folded up, giving the illusion of more room.  Would be interested to hear from other travellers as to how they fare, cos we can still change our mind - van won't be ready till Feb 11

HI Dunmowin, not usually up this early, but heading into Brisbane to meet up with our daughter from Tsv & 'Bugalugs' (1st grandchild on the way) so looking forward to that, however, yes, we too saw the fold up tables at the Brisbane show in June - thats where we got the idea from, think it will also give a bit more comfort when watching the 'box' at night too. Van booked in for next Monday.
