Picton

Hi all
Just looking for a bit more imfo on our first trip into just south of Sydney (corrimal c/p),
Have been told it is better to go to Picton then to Wollongong as it it is more caravan friendly, we are heading from Gundagai so any thoughts would be great

Both Corrimal and Picton are fairly close to home, so we havent stayed at either place. On your way, Why not come and have a look at Floriade in Canberra? (Not the next couple days, its raining)

Hopefully somebody who knows those roads can help, its steep getting down to the coast in that area. Heaps to see though, very pretty at the moment.

I don't know all that much about Picton but there are very few big hills to get there from your end D & W.

Corrimal, on the other hand (if you are coming along the M5) necessitates coming down Mt. Ousley.  It is a long steep drive but if you drive to the conditions and your capabilities there usually isn't any problem.  Your GPS (if you have one) will probably tell you to come down Bulli Pass ......... DON'T!!  To many tight corners and very steep also.

On the other hand you could always come up the coast road and then there wouldn't be any big hills at all really.

We use Mt. Ousley and have never had any problems, we just go back to 2nd gear and come down slowly in the left hand lane.

Hope this helps.

To be pedantic, you take the Picton turn off from the Hume Highway. You don't go through Picton, it is 10 kn west of the Hume. This link will take you from the service stations at Phesants Nest to Corrimal.

Just ask PeterD if you have any more questions.   He seems to be the one with ALL the answers.

D & W, as Peter says, take the Picton Road off the Hume. Its a fairly easy run down the hill.

When you're coming back, unless you're heading down the coast, take the same road again and not the Bulli Pass. Its a narrow, windy nightmare of a road when you're towing a van.
