This is happening now!
Sad, especially if you are inclined to 'help' people...

 

While driving on a rural end of the roadway on Thursday morning, I saw an infant car seat on the side of the road with a blanket draped over it.  For whatever reason, I did not stop, even though I had all kinds of thoughts running through my head.  But when I got to my destination, I called the  Police and they were going to check it out. But, this is what the Police advised even before they went out there to check....

"There are several things to be aware of ... gangs and thieves are now plotting different ways to get a person (mostly women)to stop their vehicle and get out of the car.

"There is a gang initiation reported by the local Police  where  gangs are placing a car seat by the road...with a fake baby in
it...waiting for a woman, of course, to stop and check on the abandoned baby.  

"Note that the location of this car seat is usually beside a wooded or grassy (field) area and the person  -- woman  -- will be dragged into the woods, beaten and raped, and usually left for dead.  If it's a man, they're usually beaten and robbed and maybe left for dead, too.

DO NOT STOP FOR ANY  REASON!!!

  DIAL 0-0-0
AND REPORT WHAT YOU SAW, BUT DON'T EVEN SLOW DOWN.

"IF YOU  ARE DRIVING AT NIGHT AND EGGS ARE THROWN AT YOUR WINDSCREEN, DO NOT STOP TO CHECK THE CAR,  DO NOT OPERATE THE WIPER  AND DO NOT SPRAY ANY WATER BECAUSE EGGS MIXED
WITH WATER BECOME MILKY AND BLOCK YOUR VISION UP TO 92.5%,  AND  YOU ARE THEN FORCED TO STOP BESIDE THE ROAD AND BECOME A VICTIM OF THESE CRIMINALS.

THIS IS A NEW TECHNIQUE USED BY GANGS, SO PLEASE INFORM YOUR FRIENDS AND RELATIVES.

THESE ARE DESPERATE TIMES AND THESE ARE UNSAVOURY INDIVIDUALS WHO WILL TAKE DESPERATE MEASURES TO GET WHAT THEY WANT."


Please talk to your loved ones about this. This is a new tactic used.  Please be safe.

Most of these post come from dreamland I get them emailed to me all the time I file them in the round bin , the robber these day come right to you and don't have the time to wait for a sucker to come to them they need their now

If you check www.snopes.com  or www.hoax-slayer.com it can save a lot of unnecessary concern. This one isnt true. Thankfully.

Even so, it doesnt hurt to be careful about stopping on lonely roads.

A 4D maglite and a 4 foot piece of broom handle do the job quite nicely thank you... Oh and it aint illegal to carry them, not yet anyway....

Goodonya Grumpy, I'm with you. Love my big Maglite. A clip around the ear with it would certainly discourage further unwanted attention from those with malevolent intentions.

I didn't know if it was true or if it was in Australia but when i got the email just thought of all you guys out there that might not be a big ugly bugger like my self
and the last thing i would like to read in the forum that one of our GNM had been attacted, sorry if i had posted any miss leading posting and if it upset anyone

Hey Brikkies, if they are quick enough to avoid a belt round the ears with the maglite then they will have to be doubly quick to avoid being knackered, that is usually enough to bring the toughest to tears and usually their knees.

No need to apologise, howdrink.

It was a good post and regardless of where it originated or how much truth can be attached to it, we all need to be reminded now and then to be alert to the possibility of undesirables making victims of us.

The maglites a good idea. I've got a stilsons next to my seat. I reckon the fellows would get a smack across the teeth with it, the girls, not sure, maybe a whack on the big toe. Thats the plan anyway, but if push come to shove, I'd probably drop it on my big toe.

Hey ...

I have one of those 480mm mag-lites that my brother used as a occasional MP in Melbourne many years ago. 

The technique is to use the right hand to hold it over your right sholder with the lens pointing towards the person. Turn it on & 'blind' them and if necessary it is in an excelent position to deliver a blow onto the head or torso of said person.


Makes me feel good to have it with its weight load of 8 or so batteries  ... but given my lack of mobility these days, I think that I might be of more danger to myself than the said person.

No one was upset or offended by the timely warning. It pays to be aware of these dodgy emails, because they can lead to scams or simply give you a virus in your computer. It doesn't take much.

We are all subjected to scams and misleading information from time to time, and we can never be too prepared.
If we all went out with a shifter or maglite under our arm all the time, we'd be too nervous to set foot out the door.
I lock myself in the van at night, but never feel threatened.
I'm a crippled, fat, little old pensioner. I haven't got anything of use to them (anymore), and I could still kick high enough to reach those vital body bits.
Always take note of where you are, observe who's parked around you in the park or the free camp. Observe weird or unusual behaviour and if you don't feel safe, don't stay there.
These days with mobile phones and UHF radios in our vehicles, it's easy to call the authorities if we see something unusual along the road. Don't take risks. Don't be a hero.
Be a-lert,! We need more "lerts".

Howdrink, no need to apologise for caring about others and trying to help. It may not be these scams that we come up against , but we will be more careful if something similar occurs.
