Have a look a couple of pages back under the topic "tents", Beachball... the oztent was discussed there.

Hey Tony,

Welcome to the forum, but I have to say - what's with the.... 'if ever the time comes'? Oh Tony, Tony, Tony, be positive my friend - it may not happen over night, as they say, but it will happen. Gracious, Pete was going to take me on a trip around the state (Qld) for our honeymoon about 15 years ago, we finally 'did' the trip in Jul/Aug this year! And was it worth the wait - you bet!! Hang in their mate, your turn will come, in the meantime enjoy the jaunts that you make with your Oztent.

I've got an Oz tent to complement my tiny 10' poptop caravan. Only had it out a few times, but love it - the oztent that is. Ideal for this old chook to work, tho a bit heavy to lift. Even wet it sits perfectly in the aisle between the bunk beds on a tarp to go up under the verandah to dry when i get home. Lets me spread out with the doglets. I'm thinking of buying the side bits so that I can join it to the van and let the breeze through without the flies in attandance. I've seen several Oztents in caravan parks. First saw one owned by a couple with a small campervan and they lent it to me one weekend to try. It gives me the space to get extra junk out of the van, plus privacy with the rear door of the van. On awkward shaped sites it can be put on the side or whatever. Also if I borrow a trailer I will be able to do quick take-offs with a minimum of gear.

thanks all, for the advice, the oztent rv4 that e bought came with the side all i had to do was buy the front door panel wich i now have, with all the panels up and the front on it seems very roomy i guess a 4 person tent for just 2 people there would be a fair bit of room, i have a duel cab hilux with roof rack so its not much of a hassel for us to put it up on the roof, we are going to give it a try on the october long weekend at the port augusta caravan park just in case we have to get a cabin or something but i don't think that we will need to.
as for the "some day making the trip"comment,,, well i guess i was feeling a bit low as some of my close friends have passed away lately and now another has been stuck down with terminal cancer and , well i guess i was starting to feel my mortality a bit, anyway thanks for the advice...

Hi Tony....Pejay is right!!!!! No more being negative now. Plan that trip and just make it happen mate. My husband and I , threw a 2 man tent in the boot of our sedan one year, and just headed around Qld for a month. We had a ball. Back then there was no "free" camps and tent sites were cheap in c/parks. We met wonderful people...young and old.... doing much the same thing. When you realise how easy it is, there will be no stopping you . Just enjoy.
Cheers dellie.

hey yeh thanks folks,, yes i ty to be positive about it every day and most of the time i am, just every now and then some bump in the road comes along but i guess it's only a bump, and i have a 4 wd so i'll select 4wd and get over it,,, the bride and i are planning a 3 week trip to tassie next september, i'll take us that long to save up to have a grand time but in the mean time now that summer is almost upon us we'll be taking short trips away every now and then,, the extended family have a holiday house at Marion Bay at the foot of Yorke Penn here in good old South Ozz but we don't go there as often as we should, guess we're just to busy working 6 days a week just to make other people rich, or at least that how i see it anyway, but we have talked it over, her and i and from now on it will be less work and more play,,, not that we don't need to work, like most everyone we need to work still, but i think 6 days a week is getting a bit much now,,, sorry folks for dribbling on like this,
cheers
tony and sharron

Hi Beachball 57,

Spent 2 mths in tassie this year, Mar, April, could have stayed another 2 mths.   Great weather only had 6 wet days.

Saw all corners of the state.   Beautiful place, take your time and have a good look around.

Watch out for the wild drivers, especially in the middle and west of the state.   They do not know the purpose of double lines and give way signs.
There are some very nice free camp sites and caravan parks.   Be prepared to pay for the showers in some parks as they are not in the park fees.   A ripoff in my view.

Buy a National Parks Pass on the boat over for $60.   It will pay for itself in no time.   Be sure to get it stamped as you go.

I suggest that if you are watching the dollars do you homework regarding Tasmania Ferry costings.

Have a good time
