Roger and I have just listed our van for sale on a very reputable site. Lo and behold, we get a text message from someone called Jasonogrant, offering $2,000 more than we are asking. Now, I would have to be pretty thick in the head if that did'nt ring alarm bells!!!!! Who offers more than a person is asking? Scam...scam....scam, I reckon. We spoke to someone about it, and the general feeling is....they ask for your bank account details to deposit the funds..and Bingo...you are had. We ignored it. Jasonogrant was the name used. I might be blonde and getting a little slow, butttttt...not THAT slow!!! Be careful out there and watch for that name. Cheers Dellie
.. there is quite a scam going around now along those lines .. they are not interested at all in the caravan .. but just for you to reimburse them for 'agents fees' (or something similar) which they claim was also paid when they put their money into your account. It is a scam and just recently, there were a number of 'foreigners' arrested both in Oz and in the US .. This was on TV only in the last week or two .. but unfortunately, the 'grey' matter has not retained all the details .. If I find more info, I'll post it ..
I advertised my previous van in the Quokka (a WA free online and hard copy publication, owned by the West Australian now I believe).
I received what appeared to be a genuine interest request email (hotmail address) from my online ad asking for photo's of the van (apparently they can use these later in other publications to pretend they are selling a van, asking for deposits/payments etc).
After sending the photo's I then received another email which I regognised as a scam (I am overseas, buying for my son's birthday etc, open a Paypal account etc). I did not reply to this one and reported it to scamwatch etc, including hotmail who closed down their hotmail account. I believe they do the rounds using various email addresses such as yahoo, gmail etc. They also use various sale publications for their devious deeds.
I ended up with three genuine enquiries from my Quokka ad, one of whom bought my van.
I had a similar experience. There was an add for a Coromal in our local rag and it was only $8,500.00. I thought it was a misprint and I enquired via the email address supplied. There was also a Qld phone number so no alarm bells rang initially.
When I received the email back from them, they wanted me to deposit money for the van in an ebay account, of all things. They also lived overseas and were selling as part of a divorce settlement and wanted a quick sale, hence the low price. He said he was an ebay trader and it could be done through there.
I replied I would go on ebay and look for the van advertised on there and then the reply was it wasn't advertised there, he was just a trader and had an account with them. He would get ebay to send me an invoice and I paid the money into the account.
I contacted ebay and the newpaper involved and it was for sure a scam. Ebay were wonderful and said they don't work like that.
A lady in a town up the valley did $12,000 trusting one of these jokers.

I must be a binge thinker. I do it a lot at times, then, not much at all.
Definitely a scam. If selling on Ebay, not sure about other sites, a vehicle being sold is only ever paid for by cash at pickup. If anything else is offered you can guarantee it to be a scam. You can get caught on both sides. A buyer deposits the money for the vehicle into the sellers bank account only to find the seller is not genuine, has no vehicle and runs off with the money. Only ever pay in sight of the vehicle.
We also saw the segment on TV the other day, and are a tad concerned when we go to list our house in the near future, with it being listed on the internet as well - the last thing we need is to be 'done' with the sale of our house!

Pejay.......consider having a caveat put on it that all interested parties must attend sale and settlement in person and have passport and/or other suitable identification before settlement can proceed.

ive been trying to buy tickets to the eagle concert alas only 795 dollar one left so gave it amiss was happy to pay around the 400 mark but not that much, but people suggested ebay for them and oh yeah for sure there are plenty there but then some one told me be very careful people make them look real and they are duds.
also a friend payed for some and got ripped off so not even going there it makes me wonder sometimes how people can go about ripping hard working aussies off like they do
Our van is an offroad coromal poptop,17'6" with shower , toilet, aircond, sat t.v. island bed, and very comfortable. Has solar panels, extra water tank, filter, and lots of "stuff" that is too complicated for me. I call it "boys stuff." Don't get cranky girls....I just don't understand that side, and I don't want to. Lol.Has tandem, independant suspension too. I didn't see the articleon t.v. jonathan...would appreciate any more info you see . Haven't had any more enquires from Jasonogrant either. Cheers Dellie
