Can anyone advise on any experience they may have had in purchasing or using a set top box in their caravan. My preference is to install an AC/DC box but I am having difficulty in locating any distributors or reviews on their success. There are a couple of brands on the internet, but I have no knowledge of the specific brands or suppliers.
If you get a set top box you will probably not be able to watch the HD channels (we are now getting different programmes on the HD and not just better resolution programmes shown on the SD.) Your TV will probably not be able to handle these HD channels..
Try something like this It will not cost all that much more than a box alone. It will save having to find the extra space for the box and the mess of the connecting cables. If that is not to your liking there are others that come from the same stable. You can relegate the van TV to the kitchen or bedroom.

Thanks Peter D. - appreciate the link. I'll do some follow up on this TV to see if it will fit to the mounting bracket I have in the van. Also, my understanding was that even though you don't have a built in HD tuner in your TV, if you use a HD Set Top Box, it will allow the TV to pick up the HD channels. I have found both the SD & HD AC/DC boxes on the internet (Wintal Brand) and they are extremely small in size so space will not be a problem Thanks again for your reply.
I recently purchased a HD set top box from JB HiFi ($80) but it is 240v and needs to powered through an inverter when not on mains power. It gets all the HD channels but only displays on my TV as SD as that is what the TV is. I checked out HD 12v TV's whilst I was there and intend puchasing a 26" in the near future. Most of the smaller 26'" and below are 12v - (240v connected to a power pack) and can be used direct into a cigarette lighter type connection, according to 'the experts' in various shops.
