MUSIC FESTIVAL

We drove up from home (a whole 70 ks or so) to Walkamin Caravan Park last Thursday and spent a couple of days at the Country Music Festival held at the showgrounds at Mareeba.   Local country music club put on the festival.  Old Chad Morgan was one of the drawcards and the old bugger can still pull a crowd.  He was camped in the caravan park next to us.  I hadn't seen him since about 1970 in Mount Isa.

The talent comps during the day were the best part for us with a lot of local kids giving a good account of themselves.   Some excellent musicians amongst  them.

We all waited with baited breath for the other feature act on the last night, Creedence Clearwater Recycled.  I know that they could never be as good as the real thing but we and a lot of other oldies walked out after the first three or four songs.   I couldn't work out if the lead singer was trying to sound like John Fogerty, Little Richard or Kermit the Frog.  Perhaps a mixture of all.   He had a voice like one of those old fashioned 'ah oog gaa' car horns.

Still in all it was a good weekend with a lovely cool breeze during the evening and mornings.
