A nightmare

Well our trip home from the philippines has turned to disaster,we arrived at the airport on 3rd of october for our flight home, only to be told our tickets were no good as the travel agent in brisbane had changed the date of our flight to sept 15. I wont know why until I get home, but what concerns me most is that we were never contacted to confirm any change that was made.I have rebooked the flight to leave tomorrow ,cost $1000 in penalties, lost a weeks wages (was to be back at work last monday) ,hotel for a night, transport back and forward to my families place here, transport to Manilla to pick up new tickets.I am down to my last dollars,so I am praying nothing else go'es wrong.
It will be the happiest day of my life when we get back home to our little caravan. This was my first trip out of Australia and my last,I have found the experience both stressfull and frightening
I love my simple life in australia,I LOVE AUSTRALIA
ps.
sorry if this post is inappropriate for this forum, just wanted to tell someone

Not inappropriate at all. I hope you rip the heads off your travel agent when you get back.
Would insurance cover any of it, its not something you have done so surely there should be some recompense.

It is appropriate Rowdy.   You can vent on here all you want, you are among friends.

There's a lot to be said for staying put I think.

We were to have a trip to Europe and USA next year but decided that there was way to much to see and do here in Aussie land before we go and see how the other half lives.    I mean you can't improve on near to perfect can you.

Let them come here and we will show them how to live...........wink.gif   Temporarily of Course.

Terrible shame hate to see a holiday ruined like that. We have been to the Phillippines many times, and loved it.

You have every right to be very upset at being treated this way. It would be a pity to have one bad experience put you off overseas travel however.

Sorry to hear your trip turned into a bit of a nightmare,.......I've been overseas a few times and each time, I was glad to call australia home (to quote a famous but very appropriate song) and while I plan to stay in the land of oz and travel in the future,  I'm glad I went overseas as it made me realize just how lucky we are here, it really is the lucky country.

I hope your insurance covers your expenses and it all works out well.

Keep Smiling

Hi Rowdy sorry to hear your trip ended up like that and cost so much extra. Just what you don't need. My hubby won't go anywhere overseas. Not even to NZ where we originated from. He says there are plenty of places to see here, but I love going back to see relatives and friends, just like your wife would have loved it. We love Oz and the lifestyle it affords us. - Val and Rob

Sounds like that travel agent has a case to answer for inappropriate business practice, and compensation for distress and trauma, and the bungled travel plans should be coming your way.
Don't feel sorry for sharing a bad experience on GN. The more the merrier when it comes to words of encouragement and "wisdom".
All the best and I hope they hang the b.....ds! Cheers

Not the best way to end a holiday Rowdy, If things go right all the time people learn nothing ,its only when things go wrong that one learns some thing . Thank you for the lesson ..Rowdy

Welcome home Rowdy.   Who wouldn't have a smile plastered all over their face when you can come home to this wonderful and amazing country we live in.

OS is alright but like the song says

"I STILL CALL AUSTRALIA HOME"

Gee, where do you start listing what's "over there" (and I admit the Philippines may not be to everybody's taste, but I love it).
Let's consider Europe, where they have:
Culture
History
Civilisation
Good food
Mature governments
Beautiful scenery
Wonderful architecture
Decent newspapers and magazines
Literature
Dress sense
Decent public transport/airlines
Good art galleries and museums
Courtesy on the roads

I won't go on. I think the best description of Australia I've seen was: "A Third World country with clean streets."
Cheers, Tony

The box is now open for all us "Aussies" to donation to the "Buy TonyD a ticket to emmigrate to Europe"

Or better still give him the experience of living in a 'REAL" third world country, maybe then he will appreciate Australia better.

We've lived and worked in NZ, Singapore, Holland and Ireland, and they all had their good points. While we love Australia and wouldn't actually end up living anywhere else, that doesn't mean that there aren't many wonderful things about other countries, and we would be poorer for not having seen and experienced them. It rather defies probabilities that of all the world the only things worth seeing would all be in a single country!

I quite agree Nicholstones the world has many wonderful and varied places and things to see and cultures to learn about.

Australia has it's own uniqueness which makes it very appealing especially to people from Europe and we speak from experience.

You cannot compare countries because there is such diversity between them.

To each his own.
