I wonder if the Caravan Park owners and Councils are tuned into this Great site we have...Do you think that they know the problems we face....And that we like to camp and light a campfire to bond with nature.... it's much more enjoyable than staring at another caravan on either side of you at a Park sometimes less than one metre away....Would love to see some in put from these bodies..
I have watched staff play Spider and other games on their Comp whilst killing time...What about tuning in to our choice of living and stop complaining about a person having a free Camp..also running off to The councils.and dobbing people in...I believe as Aussies..It is our right......The Three Months I have travelled I have seen and met some good park owners and also some real Pigs........

I always leave my camping area cleaner than I found it.
Was just saying to Blue that what we need tonight is a camp fire. It's rather cold here at the moment.
Can't beat the nature element of our lifestyle Welcome.
It sure beats hands down some of the homosapien species one runs across in our travels.
We free camp when ever and where ever we can and have loved every minute of it.
I don't think the van park owners are too worried about improving things for us eg: lower fees etc., as it would then mean more work for them because they would have more vans on sites.
It still comes down to expecting someone else to fix their own mistakes expecting the councils to limit or totally ban free camping in their area because it's taking away their revenue when all along it is their greed that is doing it.
Not all owners are this way inclined though. I have met some really good ones and they are the ones that usually have a reasonable tariff too.
Campfires are ok in the right situation, and are great to sit around, especially in bush camps etc.
I do think they need to be located properly in caravan parks where vans are parked closely together too near a fires location especially if the wind is blowing the wrong way.
Many people who stay at parks suffer from Asthma and other breathing problems and there is nothing worse than having a van full smoke in those situations (life threatening for some), these people need to be considered.
Smoke is almost impossible to keep out of vans in a close knit situation if they are too close to a fire place etc.

Taunton Farm Holiday Park, Cowaramup This is ranked as the best park in WA. 4 ks from Cowaramup on Bussell H'way-close to Margaret River and all the vineyards and surfbeaches. Clean-great facilities and huge bough shed-with barbecues, tables, open fireplace, and a great place to meet fellow campers
I have reframed from this post but I must support Vic on his post in Queensland it is against the law to have outside Fire at ant time for the reason Vic has stated . Has if caravan owners would not get feed back from there clients the good parks are always full so they must be listen to their clients and in any business you are doing well if you can kept 75% happy you could be in the 25%
Camp fires are a lovely thing, but I don't free camp. If the park doesn't have a fire pit, what about a webber without the food? Like a fire bucket but not so obvious. Just burn a few heat beads and add some small bits of bush wood for the smell and atmosphere. It won't smoke too much, and with some care and consideration it shouldn't bother too many others. I haven't tried it, but some parks may accept it. Worth a try.

Ma that is the law for the Whole state of Queensland it is a local government law not a fire service law , but what Granny is talking about would be legal it would be class has BBQ
The seasonal fire ban excluded, we all respect that one. If the open fire ban is state wide for QLD for the whole of the year, then we sure did see a lot of nomads breaking the law while we were free camping extensively throughout QLD.

Yes, us too Ma. We all just have to be sensible about it.
Ma it has a lot to do with were you are camping If you are close to a town an somebody ring the local fire station they must attend if you have not a permit for the fire it would extinguish and you could face a fine, you can apply to your local council for a permit for a one off fire for a special function not easy to obtain in some council area if you have obtain a permit you must notify your local fire station and give them your permit number . This is the fact but it may not be in forced in some rural area but the law is in place in Queensland , but if you are at Dougs place who would see your fire anyway , but in other it is the people that live by who report it to the fire service if you get a report you must turn out to the fire

Brookie, agree it is a great caravan park, have stayed there several times, walk through the fence on one site for the vineyard wines, through the fence on the other side for cheese and icecream from the cheese factory, Yum, Yum.......As you know this open fire is in a partly open campers kitchen which is huge and barn like with a high roof and well away from the main caravan parking area (anyone with breathing problems could ask for a site away from this area, and not attend the kitchen when the fire is going at night)......I don't consider that one would be a problem for anyone, well thought out in terms of location in the park etc. Sheesh.....now you've made me feel like another visit !!!!

Hi Jimbo most of the Park owners I have met have been really good, but I have been in caravan reception areas when other caravaners have treated the park people like pigs. Some caravanners think the whole world revolves around them & in my case it does... LOL. My theory is " everyday not at work adds another week to my life.

Biggles you hit the nail on the head , Welcome maybe we should look at what guide line park owners have to follow to kept within the local government act , wood fire BBQ are ok so why not sit around the barby them there are a lot of people don't like wood BBQ to hard to control the heat levels so caravan put in electric barby to kept the majority happy if they don't do that they go out of business
