hello all, my name is rob and my partner is fran and it wont be long now until we join you on the road. we are both suffering from the wandering boot syndrome and are realy looking forward to setting sail. i have been reading through the forums on this site and have learned and laughed a lot and we are looking forward to meeting as many of you as possible. we are aiming at the end of february departure from the bunderberg district qld and heading north slowly, then across the top and down the west coast to arrive in mebourne for next xmas to visit frans folks. after that, who knows?? anywhere there is a track. cheers for now, rob and fran.confusebiggrinbiggrin

Using "Shank's Pony" will certainly be slow .
Welcome to the Nomads Rob & Fran .
After nearly 40yrs of travelling in semis-b doubles & road trains I have
only passed through most of these places you don't get to "see them"
And I have never towed a caravan , so even I , am getting some valuble lessons .

Hi all.  I'm Rob's partner Fran.  I would like to thank you all for your warm welcomes.
Yes, shank's pony is going to be slow, but can always get a lift or ride double on the pony.  Rob has described our intended first trip.  After that we will be getting a couple of metal detectors and prospecting you never know we might strike it rich and shout you all a round trip via caravan parks.  He's a bushie by heart so we'll be going off the beaten track after Xmas. cry.gif cowboy.gif
Born and bred in the suburbs I am both excited and a little nervous as will be a little out of my comfort area, but will be holding my nose and diving in the deep end travelwise. 
I love the ocean so hopefully after that we can do a coastal trip around.  That's the good thing about travelling in  4 x 4 with a caravan you never know where you're going to end up. happy.gif
We both follow the forums closely especially all the advice on here. lightbulb.gif As being novices will certainly need it all. redface.gif

been in a few semi's myself in my younger days mainly qld and nsw with the odd vic run. shanks pony would be ok for the first couple of 100 ks after that it would probably be by hurse.    cheers mate. rob.

You never know who you will meet on the road, have not met nasty traveler's yet and we have been doing it for over 9 years, (by it, I do mean travelling) eyepopping.gif

Good luck with the Lucky Strike! I've heard that when fossiking for opal, you dont need a metal detector, but a divining rod of the type used for finding underground water?

As for meeting any forum members on the road,handshake.gif I have not been lucky enough to have that happen yet.no.gif...hmmm maybe it could be for the best, there seems to be some strange people on here eyepopping.gif....... shhhh! don't tell anyone whisper.gif but I think I may be one of them.

Make sure you ask for a Grey Nomads sticker from our illustrious webmistress Cindy & display it prominently on your van/mhome or whatever you are traveling in so we may spot you in your travels.

gday dellie, yep, wombat sounds  like quite a character, will look for him on the track. what part of qld are you from??? i am also a mad fossicker, done 11 years on the anakie gem fields, dredged for gold in nsw before they outlawed dredging, got some of the best garnets i have ever seen in the oban river in nsw, done topaz in torrington nsw just to name a few. we are realy looking forward to this trip it will be a first for fran and it will be interesting to see her face at her first find. thank you for the welcome. cheers, rob

gday gerty dancer, you are right, you don't need a metal detector for opal, just a load of luck from what i have been told, iv'e never dug for it. thank you for the welcome. cheers, rob.

Which reminds me must put mine on my van.

Welcome Rob and Fran. I see you are from the Bundaberg area. I go up there every winter as my son and grandkids live that way.They used to live in Bundy but have now moved to Biggenden. I love the area. Heading back up that way around April.

While a few are asking for stickers..... we did too, but no luck. I just figured Cindy had run out. As for fossicking... we are off to Lightening Ridge in a couple of week. We try to get there at least once a year. Anakie for Sapps, Alice Springs area, Gemtree for Zircons. Just have to play in that dirt. Once is never enough. Cheers Dellie
