G'day everyone, hope this finds you all in a safe place if up North and out of harms way. My post concerns the disgraceful behaviour of our 2 major food/fuel retailers with their predatory pricing tactics..........ie, offering cheap milk and bread at the checkout and having you pay for it at the fuel pump whilst stating "we dont cross subsidize food or fuel"! What can we do to protest this blatant rip off? Does the ACCC have the powers? From past efforts I would suggest not. The wholesale price of petrol actually dropped last week and over the the same period fuel prices rose over 13c per litre. I have no issues with companies running a profitable business for share holders, but when you have 2 companies with such control over farmers etc and consumers its unhealthy and its high time for govt intervention..........I look forward to reading your posts with suggestions on how we might tackle these costly and ugly tactics from such predatory companies. ozi2
I'm afriad Ozi2...That there is nothing we can do Individually....But collectively we could....United we stand Divided we fall...I'm afraid again that the latter is how it is...Expect no help from Govt Dept's..."Why? Because now matter how it pans out.....They will still get their precious GST...It is so Frustrating the way it works with greed.....Now the attention is with Riots overseas again and the storms heading for Qld again.....We cannot win
We can all fight back against these retailers, try to shop at the independents if possible the food and fuel shops I know it is not always possible, but the more you do it the more it hurts the big boys I live on the gold coast, an Aldi supermarket opened in our local shopping centre that already had a woolies and coles, you can generally shoot a gun down the checkout isle in the big two and not hit anybody and the Aldi is packed Even our local fruit and veg shop is cheaper and better quality than the big stores Even with their shopper dockets the fuel is priced higher than our local independent service station and the docket brings it down to normal price
SUPPORT THE INDEPENDENTS OR PAY THE PRICE IN THE FUTURE
It's the case of the greedy with pockets and wallets that are bottomless. They all want a large slice of the pie. I have no patience with these extortionists. If I had my way, I would not only fine them, but close them down for good.
Simply write to your local polie and vent your frustration on them and it may flow thru to the parliament if enough of us do this. This is corporate greed at it,s worst.

On the back of my bike there is a sticker that says "Woolworths, I wont shop there", its actually a bit of a fib, but i do try to shop there as little as possible. As someone said before - more power to the independents. Coles and Woolworths ploy of giving the masses "cheap bread and milk" is deplorable, you just pay for it somewhere else along the shelf.

So true, if every one got together & gave the big one's the flick & supported the independents,then they to may be able to lower their prices a bit through increase sales then we all benifit. Just getting all to do it is the hard part, we need more action & less talk. When woolies bring in their white goods store it will be worse.This country has lost people power,or was that taken away as well.
Local example of greed, we have woolies with a bottle shop & big w, coles built a new complex with a few small shops included. Cellebrations set up in another building beside coles not long back, coles applied for a bottle shop & was rejected by council & police.Within a few weeks cellebrations became BWS , which is owned by woolies & another grab to stop coles having it as the location was right beside coles. Result is woolies has two bottle shops in one small town,
I think we are almost at the point where there is two choices; take it or leave it.

What is not widely known is that the big 2 buy up land that is close to their outlets to stop the independents opening close to them and just leave it empty.
