A fellow by the name of David Mason also did it. He walked with three camels. He is or was an Australian Army officer and a former member of the French Foreign Legion. I heard him interviewed on Macca a few times. He wrote a book about his time in the Foreign Legion called "Marching with the Devil". A great read. Not sure if he wrote a book about his walk. That is some walk!!
I am getting freaked out about travelling around in my little van. Can't imagine doing it on foot even a bit of the way. Will keep an eye out for you. Where will the first bit go from Byron Bay as I am hoping to be travelling up the Newell sometime in April.

From Byron we head down to Lismore, Casino, Tenterfield, Glen Innes, Inverell, Warialda, Moree, Collarenabri, Walgett, Brewarrina, Bourke, Tibooburra, Cameron Corner.

Then West, with info on http://www.jeffswalk2.com/theroute.html and just started http://www.jeffswalk2.com/stage12.html. We are working on the details of the route now.

All that water made us go south of the intended trek which was straight along the NSW/Qld border.

Huh!! What happened to the two posts from Jeffthewalker posted after my last one detailing the route town by town. I read it a while ago, just got my map out to follow it through only to find they are gone,.
I remember Moree was on the list after Tenterfield.
How would it disappear so quick.

I edited the post to make the links work properly and that made it subject to scrutiny by the forum addministrators (I think that was it).

Actually, I posted it twice because the first one did not show up after an hour or so. When I "quick replied" the second time I was a bit lax with the web site link address(es) and so it posted straight away. It only "disappeared" after I made the web links fully visible.

It'll show up 'soon'.

Good luck Jeff. Unfortunately we wont be in Cameron's Corner at the same time as you - we are looking at around September to be in that area.

Noticed on your web site you are currently at Allan Creek Pastoral Company - not far from home for me - and that on 18th Feb you will be with Kedron - we will be there on 16th!

Maybe our paths are meant to cross. Keep up the posts on the forum if you can

Jeff, unfortunately, we are stuck in Jimboomba until July. When we finish up work, we are heading west - your itinerary is just not quite achievable for us.

Would love to do part of your trip with you, but timing is not quite right for us. Maybe we can catch up locally before you go.

Yer right of course. Great country out there and the only way to REALLY see it is on foot smile

, but that's not for everyone.

Donn, though, is making the trip with me. He is one of a couple of full trek walkers that have committed so far.

Lots are going to do a 4 day stage or two (on foot).

And there is considerable interest from 4WDers to tag along for the party and fundraising side.

1. Tell all your friends and rellies.

2. It IS about fundraising so tell them about that too.

3. Buy a money box (round Crazy Clarks, Reject Shop), download and print the wraparound label from my web site and rattle it at work and play.

4. Follow me (us, there are guest walkers) as we wend our weary way.

5. Keep up the comments wherever NETS WALK2 pops up.

WOW! Amazing thing to do for a great cause. We will be missing you too, We will be in Sandstone for 2 weeks but that will be an a couple of weeks time then heading north so will miss you by just... 7 months?

The postie bike suggestion wasn't as silly as you think.
In 2002 I hitched a ride with some people, from Innamincka to Birdsville, via Cordillo Downs, who were supporting a bloke on a postie bike from Melbourne to Birdsville, raising money for a charity.
His only accessories were a kidney belt and a pair of steel-capped boots. He made better miles than the Landcruiser and the Hilux.
There are so many people out there in this big wide country of hours making that extra effort for many worthy causes. They ride bicycles, motor bikes, horses, camels, walk, tow wagons, and take all sorts of interesting, isolated routes from point A to point B.
All we can do is support them when we meet them.

A few years ago my son did a round Aus anti-clockwise trip with the Honda Riders Club, raising funds for a charity. He thoroughly enjoyed it and took an English backpacker with him on the journey.
She had just arrived in the country, her mate stayed with me at my house while they were away.
