Is that the cyclone above and to the east of Aus they are showing in the weather segment?
Also yesterday a volcano erupted somewhere in the Phillipines, but not much has been said about it.
Isn't there a movie about the end of the world coming in 2012? I think I watched it on TV a few months ago.

" we,ll all be rooned" , said Hanrahan, in accents most folorn. We,ll all be rooned, the weather will get us all!Paraphasing a famous australian poet. I think the world has gone through volitile periods before, and will again. Its all cyclic. 12months ago we were in drought.Everybody talks about the weather, but nobody does anything about it.How long is a bit of string?Forcasting the weather is an unprecise art.Strewth !

Hanrahan was wrong! Things can get b***dy terrible, but people get back up and get on with it. Queenslanders, Victorians, New Zealanders... Bless 'em all!

How quickly life can change. The inland tsunami in Qld, earthquake in NZ at lunchtime on Tuesday, cyclones on both sides of the country, floods and mini tornadoes.
What have we done to deserve all this?
I believe weather patterns are cyclic. Apparently these earthquakes move the earth around a bit which can impact on the climate.
Volcanoes also affect the behaviour of the climate on Earth.
Here I sit feeling totally useless offering nothing but a thought of hope for the victims and the rescuers. It's a hard job working to rescue the living and recover the victims.
It feels superfluous to just offer a thought and a prayer.

I see what you mean Beth, it's mind blowing isn't it.

They said on TV earlier you can go into www.police.govt.nz for a list of names of the deceased as they update. Have tried, it just won 't go through.

My best friend here is a Kiwi, and although her rellies are all on the North Island, she has friends in Christchurch who she is worried about. She's talked to one on the phone, but hasn't been able to contact any others. I'll send her that site. Thanks Marj.

I'm a kiwi from the North Island too.
My sister has friends around ChCh, she heard from them today they were all ok. One friends daughter was in town at the time it happened and a wall of bricks fell down beside as she was walking along the street. She got out unharmed.

My friend was telling me about a young bloke there who'd been burgled last year, then lost a lot in the Sept quake, and now has lost everything again.

Now I understand why so many Kiwi's come to live in Australia!

I hated the earthquakes more than anything. One good reason to come here. I always said Get out before it all sinks.

Those bast...ds which raid property and steal the valuables and property of the victims of these tragedies should have their hands cut off.
They are the lowest of the low.
