Backpackers - you either love them or hate them - but hey we were all young once...

Personally, I find most backpackers really fun young people doing what I did all over the world.  Its the yobbo True Blue Aussies that get my goat up.  If your in Byron Bay, where today I wouldnt be seen....    but there was a day... once upon a time....in a life far far away.....lol

On Magnetic island , we call them blackpackers. They want everything for nothing, and seem to have the rape, pillage and leave mentality. But a lot of the tourist industry runs on them, and like everybody else , there are good ones and bad. I am talking from 19 years experience running a tourism business and had a few run ins withthe good and the bad. I suppose they keep the wheels of commerce going, and the women on the beach look good. One mob put a cloths line up in an anzac memorial park. and were unhappy when told to take it down.I could go on for days............(.I wrote this before I saw the note by pete).

Backpackers arent all like that, We've met some nice kids in those dreadful Wicked Campers (I thought they went out of business?)

Nicholstones, we think we are young too... but we were never like those kids!

Ok, seeing how this post apparently is related to an article I wrote, I'm trying to find some clarification. Do people have a problem with this article or find it funny? Because it was written to be funny. Not sure if people are hating here, loving it, or somewhere in between? Clarification would be sweet. Thanks

Ryan

Most definitely! I know I'm extremely lucky to live footloose and fancy free with no real responsibilities of a mortgage, kids, career, etc. Just save some cash, see the world, and meet awesome people from all over the world. It's great!

Yep. I can safely say bums are classier than that lot.

What a pack of losers, they give decent packpackers a bad name. I gave up reading after the soccer field incident. Have respect for your hosts when travelling in another country.

Mate...  I posted the article because I absolutely loved it.  Have met lots of lovely backpackers, just wish I could do it all again (being young, foolish and irresponsible, that is)... I guess I will just have to grow old disgracefuly... lol

That's very funny in my cartoon mind. It's also a bit tragic in 20/20 hindsight.
I'm sure many of us have been there and done that somewhere, sometime in our long lives, even though we'd deny it if questioned.
All Wicked Campervans weren't taken off the road, just some of them. It seems a few were unroadworthy so they had to be replaced with roadworthy ones.
Most of the "artwork" is quite clever, but some is a little offensive, although Wicked Campers aren't the topic here.

I spent over an hour reading of the laricans antics, what a great time. I can remember when, better not go there. I can tell a yarn or two but best kept for a campfire whilst having an ale or 2. Yep, grown up over the years and out too. The stories to tell the grandkids are in those pages
