Hi guys we are about to head out in our camper trailer for a month in April, Im thinking cool nights and 12 volt heaters as well as hot water bottles, warm clothes and blankets. Any recommendations for a reasonable 12 volt heater that wont kill your battery and break the bank? Thanks in advance Turtle and Patch
I think any 12v heating source will kill your battery, campfire, warm clothes in layers, hot water bottle wrapped in a towel, maybe a tea spoon of concrete (to harden you up). I hate the cold and find a beannie and gloves are a godsend. Dont know how serous you are but you can get a 12 volt deisel heater that could be set up, they blow warm air into the camper. cheers blaze
Using an electric blanket with an inverter may work provided you have adequate battery capacity and use it on a low setting. I have not tried this or done the sums so this suggestion comes without any guarantee of success. A cheap inverter would be fine.
Otherwise using 12v to heat a camper is a bit like shovelling a load of sand with a teaspoon. (I thought of another analogy but it's not suitable for a clean family forum!)
Hey Turtle......4 years we camped in winter with our CT.....as suggested.....camp fire... warm clothing........DO NOT use a Gas heater...old kero ones stink....any fire inside a CT spells doom

Hi Glenn,
Another option is drive till you get somewhere it is warm and comfy
But do agree with Dave as well we find a couple minky blankets to wrap around when seating and nice camp fire is the go. Have a good feather down donner and have coped with minus temps for short periods anyway. But in long periods cold go back to my first sugestion Drive till you get somewhere warm

I have a similar arrangement, small column heater (I'm using it right now as I type this), and two sleeping bags..... a light weight cheapie from K Mart and a warmer better quality one. I open the bag(s) out and use it (them) as a doona.
I Don't think I would like any sort of heating in a camper , as suggested - head north , long-johns etc . My belief , is we are only cold until we warm th bed up . off topic - a couple of years ago I got dressed up for charity(no not a dress) after a couple of hours a bloke said to me , he wished I would get that gear off . I said mate if by what I am doing is going to put A Smile on 1 kid , I don't mind . In other words if you think ya might look a bit silly , who's gunna see ya . At least you will be warm . You don't have to wear blue singlet , stubbies like me 24-7 , 52-12 . I don't get cold . Richo.
It's a very cold night. It's been great sitting by the camp fire. So, off to bed. "Trackie", sox, beanie and into the sleeping bag. Within minutes you are really warm. Then, about, what seems like minutes, the brain tells the body that you need to go for a pee. The body doesn't want to get out of bed. "No, I'm not getting up!" So you stay there while the brain and body argue. Eventually, after what seems an hour, the body wins. Back to bed. Warm again. Sleep tight !?
Hi Turtle, best I could come up with is go to bed early with your partner and cuddle up, if you do not have a partner, walk around your camp area and find a single one. lol
