Boondooma Dam - 2 hours inland from Gympie QLD

Management and I have just arrived back home after 6 days at Boondooma.  Really enjoyed the place, very peaceful down by the lake where we camped.  There are good amenities and powered sites up the hill, but we liked camping by the water.  $16 per night for two.  Fires and pets allowed.  Potable water 20 metres away.  Fishing was ordinary, caught a couple of dew, (catfish) for breakfast, but the highlight was catching 603 redclaw.  Some people caught over a thousand.  Before anyone jumps on us and says thats excessive, Boondooma is outside the redclaw natural range and they are a pest.  You are not allowed to return any to the water, even small ones.  Would recommend this place to anyone who likes a bit of luxury, (hot showers), but in a lovely lakeside bush setting.  We had some of the redclaw a'la garlic prawns - beautiful...

Its poring here, 200mm a day , and more to come. Should have stayed away for another month at least.Came back to check the house and boat . No real damage. There is nothing happening here, except the rain, so if we get a respite, I will load up again, and hit the road. Easter isn,t til 25th april, same day as Anzac day, so I suppose I should come backWeek or so before then.I,m growing moldy here.Would like some redclaw.

I was thinking of coming south to get out of the rain- bad thing , one shouldn,t think too much. Its raining all the way down andthe road will probalbly be cut ay Marlborough, and all the usual places. Bugga! It stopped here, but is still raining north and south of Townsville.Think SUN-SUN SUN. Wouldn,t mind a feed of red claw, though.

Heard on the news a little while ago the road is cut somewhere between Cairns and Townsville, showed a long row of trucks stranded.

I'm just north of Marlborough at the moment [Sunday] Bill, and the roads down this way are fine so far.  Haven't had nearly as much rain as I thought we were supposed to get.  [Not yet anyway.]

Marj is right, the road was cut in 2 places further north a couple of days ago.

Cheers,
Sheba.

Bill, you have been moaning so loud that even God must have head you and turned off the sprinkler for a little while lol  Had 50 mils here at home when we were at Boondooma, only a few sprinkles here since then.  We have done a pretty good job of dodging the rain here....

I,m off to feed the chooks.........

Got my Qld map out to work out where Boondooma Dam was. Its not on the map, can't find it. Which road out is it on and what would be the nearest town??

You might say that I have been wingiing about the rain , but we have had 762mm since the start of the month(nearly 32 inches!) and more to come. Two vehicles fell down potholes just around the corner from my place, one a 4wd, and I had to tow them out. I have a picture of a man up to his waist in a pothole in the middle of the road! The council can,t do anything until it stops, and only god knows when that will be.I will try to post some pics.

Talking of Giru - has anyone been to the "eco park" there - about 1k off the road, great little spot - pretty cheap when we were there 18 months ago.

You catch them in "opera house nets" $5 each at K mart.  Four allowed per person.  drop in about 15 ft of water under a float, or hurl them off the bank preferably in a rocky area.  Bait is just about any vegetable, cooked spuds and pumpkin, dog food pellets... It was our first redclaw trip but we do have a boat.  There were people doing it in kayaks also

My b-i-l has also used a tiny little ton of cheap dog food. That worked a treat too.
