NEW PHONE

I drowned my mobile phone with coffee yesterday. disbelief  coffeecup.gifmobile.gif

Knocked the cup over on the table, upon which was not only the mobile, but the landline handset too.

Last night, both stopped working. doh.gif

So I went and bought a new mobile today, only to find, that most of my contacts were on the phone, not on the sim card. crying.gif

So I've now had to email all my contacts to send me their numbers. weirdface.gif

An expensive lesson, me thinks! disbelief

Hi Beth, know the feeling, hubby brought me a new phone for Christmas, it was really nice and i was just getting used to it. I was taking the grandkids for a swim and forgot i had it in my swim shorts pocket and jumped into the pool ............ disaster, tried the putting phone into a container of rice to dry it out and of course it didn't work. Hubby was away so i rang and told him what had happened. I said "don't tell me off because I already feel like crap." Anyway to cut a long story short he must of felt sorry for me and brought me another. Lucky me. Am very careful now especially when swimming!!

My daughter told me last night to sit pull it apart and sit it on top of the desktop monitor. If I'd done it right away, it may have worked, but by last night, it was too late, I reckon.

There is a stand in one of our shopping centres which sells accessories and repairs mobile phones. An aquaintance recently had his "drowned" mobile phone resuscited there for $50. You might be able to find similar in other towns/cities.

There's a mobile 'doctor' in my local shopping centre, which was suggested by the Telstra shop assistant, but when I told her what I'd done, she said 'oh no, can't fix that one!'

Maybe if it'd been plain tea or something, but this was one of those mocha stick things that you just pour water into. So it was sweet and sticky. I tried to clean it up as best I could at the time, and it kept working during the day, but by last night it gave up the ghost.

You can buy waterresistant phones, but they are expensive. My friend, who operates a jet ski tour business has one. I think its a nokia. I always have a spare phone and usually put the phone I am using in a small jiffy bag, which is a whole lot cheaper than one of those waterproof cases. But I must say I have gone thru a few over the years. A hair dryer and some metho sometimes works. It pays to put your inportant numbers on your sim.

My 'Poor Mobile Story'

While staying at The Entrance a massive electrical storm blew up the Engel.

I went to a local Public Telephone to make a claim on the Insurance Company.

The helpful operator asked for my contact number ....  That's when I realised that the mobile was in the pocket of the shorts that I wore the previous day  ... and SWMBO was doing the washing!!!

A quick sprint back to the CP was in vain  ... A mornful buzzing from the washing  machine was the dying call from the much loved mobile!!!!

That same lovely operator was very helpful & arranged a replacement phone on my home policy (only $50 excess - rather than $100 on the van policy) from the local Telstra Phone Shop!!!

Hi Beth54
Does your new phone come with a CD and patch lead that you can interlink with you computer.
My Samsung came with on and I am able to down load all my contacts to the laptop and save them there.
Regards Jim

Hi Jim,
The new one's a LG. Yes, my drowned Samsung came with the CD, but I didn't know you could download to PC. The Telstra assistant suggested I do that with this one.

I'm finding the LG very simple like my old Nokia. Also, this time I went with pre-paid, which I've never had before. My daughter came over yesterday and taught me how to do all that.  clap.gif

Most definately! If they weren't handy, I'd have to read the instructions! giggle.gif
