Which is the cheapest state to register a coaster in. I have family in 4 states QLD. NT. VIC. NSW. Thanks for any advice.
Why not ask the Family members in each State to contact their Transport Departments, and find out exactly. Or ring them yourself if it's not too expensive to do so.
I often wonder why so many people try so hard to get out of paying for somethings , if there were free rego in Tasmania would pay the ferry charge to get free rego just to say I got something for nothing
Its not the point of not paying for it Brickies, we all live in Australia and every state has different prices for the same service. Bit of a no brainer, I would do it if I could.

Everybody wants what is best for themselves at a price they feel they can afford and the members of this forum are no different.
Not everybody has the money to spend when they travel, hence taking their own food.
I support local business by buying a lot more than groceries and personally, if I chose to free camp, thats exactly what it is, my choice, because I enjoy it.
Everyone is entitled to live their lives as they wish within the laws of the land, I think the majority of us on here do. Its not against the law to save a quid where you can.

It's not a matter of getting it for nothing it's what you get for it , in NSW we get bigger potholes and toll roads, some potholes have their own post code and gift shop . This year alone rego's have jumped 25% so a van that cost $340 last year now is $416 then there's the pink slip and then the green slip everyone of those services have or are going up by similar amounts . It was once a 1-2 % increase but it's all out robbery now with 25% becoming the norm so it's not a matter of finding another $10.00 but it's now in the hundreds

If I wasn't able to free camp I wouldn't be going anywhere at all, we have to cut corners somewhere. We don't have big superfunds to rely on. If there was some uniformity in the states with their prices and it was fair there wouldn't be a problem.

I don't really know how they can class it as free camping especially if you stop beside the road, the vehicle is registered and the road laws state that you should stop and rest when tired. I feel the same about parking fee's, you're paying twice to have your vehicle on the road. That's my dummy gone for the day. Landy

Ditto your comments HW, whether we are self funded or pensioner retiree's, we all live on a fixed income no matter the source. The problem we all face is that whatever the amount we receive it is not the true value as it doesnt keep pace with inflation and the extortionist amounts different state govt charge us for things like rego rip into our budgets mercilessly.
I live on the Qld/NSW border where an untold number of residents in NSW register their vehicles/vans in Qld, aquiring cheaper rego and no roadworthy checks. They are in breach of licencing and insurance requirements alone and the fines are in excess of $2000.00 for this offence, their insurance company asks where the vehicles are housed and their data bases would know the above , why wouldnt you want to know if your vehicles are roadworthy or not..........especially when towing.
Protect yourself against insurance problems and licencing breaches for when something does happen and you find your claim knocked back.
Search the online insurance companies and I'm sure you will find enough savings to compensate and have peace of mind that you are not acting unlawfully.
Your point on roadworthy checks is a very valid one I reckon very vehicle regardless of age should undergo a rego check every year.
If the government wants to retain the 5 year exemption for new vehicles then introduce a system that can identify when a vehicle has been involved in an accident over a certain value then that should void the remainder of the exemption. Surprising how many new vehicle that are getting around with faulty lights and brakes or have been in major front end accidents and should be on the scrap heap not on our roads .

Mine two. I,m in NSW and we pay dearly in the country for fuel etc and to the RTA for pot holed sealed roads with little or no overtaking lanes on major highways.
Now off the soap box and back to the rough roads.

Darling brickies dear why should pay $460 for van in NSW when in VIC can pay $36.40 for same van. Vehicle in VIC 12 months $247, same vehicle in NSW $490. Darling brickies yes darling we do free camps and yes we take some food with us and buy some food locally. An explanation of what is wrong with that would be good to hear. Leaves more money to spend on attractions or odd pub meal. brickies darling nothing wrong been canny with money.
