Gillyb, where are you?

Just so we don't hijack anymore threads, I have started a new one just for you.

Have taken note of the bakery mentioned by someone else in Narribri, will try that on my way through next month.

How far have you gone today and which way are you going?

hi Marge, I am very familiar with the bakery. We live about 100 km away. It makes some very yummy things. Hope you enjoy a lovely cappuccino and something to eat there.

I will ValnRob. have been through many times and must have always gone to Maccas. Not next time, I will be searching out this bakery, and the good parking behind the Tourist Information Centre. Shouldn't be too hard to find.

Marj thank you for the new thread smile   I'm still in Narrabri and I checked out the bakery thisafternoon, got a lovely cake and a gormet meat pie for my dinner, they have some very yummy looking cakes well worth the visit, plenty of parking in the main street but more room to manouver at the visitors centre.  I didn't try the coffee as I'd already purchased one at the cafe opposite.

I'm heading off to Goondiwindi tomorrow morning for the 1 night then to either Toowoomba or Warwick the following night, haven't decided yet then I've pre booked 6 nights at the Big4 in Aspley which is central to all my friends and close to where I used to live.  It's a little extravagant for me but they had a special you pay for 4 and get 6 so not too bad, after that I'm heading to the Redcliffe showgrounds for a while.

Have you a date for setting off yet, Myrtle must be about ready to go

You are going well. Good to stop and have a look around instead of rushing through.
I have been through the Warwick way but not Toowoomba in the past. You've got the Cunningham Gap if you go Warwick way.

I'm thinking of going Morree, to Tenterfield, to Stanthorpe to get to Boonah when I head up. Just because I've always wanted to go that way and never have.

Is the Cunningham Gap before or after Warwick, I've forgotten.

Then after Boonah I want to go through Beaudesert, Park Ridge where I used to live to see if anyone I know still there, Browns Plains to Redcliffe to catch up with the daughter of a dear NZ friend I haven't seen since she was a little girl.

S in L. doing the inverter this weekend, but won't be heading off till at least mid or late April, have to recoup some funds after a big spend up getting Myrtle on the road.

Enjoy your yummy dinner.

Thats what I said brickies, you go through Cunningham Gap if you go Warwick way, not Toowoomba way. I have never been Toowoomba way. I'm talking about from Goondi as that is where Gilly is going tomorrow.

So you are saying Cunningham Gap is north of Warwick, between W... and Aratula. Thanks, that is what I couldn't remember after all my travels up there. Thanks.

If you are at Narrabri on a Saturday as we were last time, the bakery shuts at lunchtime. We were just in time last year, the coffee is good.

Wow Gilby, you are bringing some memories back mate. smile

No Cunningham Gap is South of Warwick and just past Aratula turn right into road to Boonah ,Sorry Marj was reading between the lines of what Gill and you were saying and wanted to let you both know that Cunningham Gap had nothing to do with going to Warwick or Toowoomba from south

Hey Marj - nearly ready to hit the road?  The parking  behind the visitors centre is really good - and you cross the road, walk through near the subway sign to the main street - turn left and the bakery there - the one on the same road as the parking don't do coffee etc - same bakery items tho.  There is a good cp in Narrabri called Big Sky - nice guy runs it, plenty of room, spotless amenities etc - quiet.  pm me when you work out when you will be here, not that it matters, not going far for next couple months

Boonah is about 9k from the turnoff from the Cunningham Hway, the visitors centre as you come into Boo has good parking, toilet and town street maps open 9.30-4pm 7 days (not Christmas or Good Friday)

Thanks for that brickies, I can never remember if north or south of Warwick even though have driven it many times. Have turned off at Aratula and gone through Boonah to Beaudesert many times.
road.
So maybe you can tell me which is the windier and steepest, The Cunningham gap or the Tenterfield to Warwick road. thanks.

Thanks brickies I was going to go to the Scarborough van park after Aspley but I want to check out the Redcliffe showgrounds first as its a lot cheaper there only $15 per night, will decide after I've had a look.   I'll go straight to Toowoomba from Goondiwindi if I decide to go down the range, no point going through Warwick will take longer.

Jules I'm staying at the Blue Sky park at Narrabri its really nice and very close to town, there's a few loud permanents but no major problem, I think they may be seasonal workers not sure.

Milo it hasn't been cold enough to worry about heating yet but when I was in Mildura last year I had a small cube fan heater that I got from Bunnings and it worked perfectly, switched it on as soon as I woke up and the van was warm in no time, made sure I always had a window open though :)

Gill the last time I was at Scarborough village it was $180 a week very good park top shower block , right on the water yatch club next door and Morgan seaford about 400mt. walk , much better park than Aspley. Price is right at Redcliffe Showgrounds would have to drive to see much and it this all grass no concrete could be messy when raining

Sorry brickies, but Cunninghams Gap is north of Warwick, not south. Marj had it right.

The Warrego Highway from Toowoomba to Brisbane is fine. There is ongoing work though. I was up there a few weeks ago.

There is also an alternative route from the New England Highway to Brisbane without going through Toowoomba. Take the Clifton-Gatton Road, which is after Allora. It's a nice drive, not as steep as the range road, still windy in parts. I haven't been through since the floods, but I would think it'd be fine by now.

Marj, don't forget to let me know when you're coming through Browns Plains. I'd love to meet you for a cuppa and a yack!

No matter which way you are travelling, there is only one north and one south. It doesn't turn around. I just googled some maps and it looks like its north of Warwick, in between Warwick and Aratula. Hope I'm right this time.

After consulting the map 3 times...I really don't know where the SE comes in. Unless you're going on the Mt Lindesay Highway. confuse wink

Doesn't matter, Marj knows where she's going anyway. smile

Came up from Armidale through Tenterfield to Stanthorpe just a month or so ago.  The road was under repair from the floods on the way up but when I was coming back it was nearly repaired.  You must pop into the Vinnies at Tenterfield, it is behind the main drag and there is a good parking area in the park.  Near big IGA supermarket.  Picked up some great cranberry coloured light shades for $1 ea.  There is a better Vinnies at Glen Innes, picked up a great jacket for $1 as well but it closes at 3pm.

Milo, get a dog...best hot water bottle around....lol

Gotta agree with Allara Milo. You can't beat them. This is Angel, the only one I have left now. She's standing in the "Loved Pets" Cemetary at my friends' place. We went to visit my other 2 who are buried there.

Cheers,
Sheba.
