Meeting with Jonathon in WA - Solo Tripping Around Oz

Well I met with Jonathon during last week and weekend in the Perth metro area, he is doing fine on his trip around in his A'Van motorhome and trailer, and WA put on magnificent weather for him. (Not so good for the farmers though).

I had a look at his rig and was very impressed with the layout and they way he keeps it.   He left the suburbs on Monday and has headed for an area north of Coolgardie to stay, then making his way to Geraldton I understand if he doesn't alter his plans.

I must say he is one of the most well mannered people I have met.  Happy travels Jon!

Hi Guys 'n Gals ..

Gee .. how'm I gonna gonna follow that support !! .. looks like my Xmas card list is getting bigger .. hehe !

Really though .. I must say that life is good with me. I've been able to slow down from a hectic 24/7 lifestyle of some years back to experience life now as it comes to me. Its been great meeting you folks .. all of us each with our own personal dreams .. but it seems that all us 'nomads' regardless of our own preferences, still share the dream of travel in this great country .. and we still search for that something different that we might find around the next bend .. or town .. or caravan park .. or .. or ...

Geraldton WA is my next major port of call  by the 11th of April .. after which I will steadily move north up the west coast as the weather allows .. Mareeba in Qld around June or July .. Lovely country that and the weather that time of the year is just super .. also the Rodeo and friends that congregate there too..

gotta stop rambling .. thanks all .. take care ..

Jon  (currently at Credo Homestead .. 70 k's north of Coolgardie)

Hi Allara ..

Its quite possible and will keep an ear open when getting nearer to that area. As I dont try to 'book' too far ahead it enables me to enjoy life more as it happens. I will still be reasonably active on here as I have been so will see where we are later down the road ..

you take care ..

Jon

Hi Phil ..

Yes mate .. unfortunately the roads out here .. whether you are coming from Kalgoorlie or Coolgardie .. are between 60 -70 k's of gravel road.

The condition is quite good and I found it a pleasant drive both times I tripped out here in the last 2 months .. but I do know that its not everyones cup-o-tea !

but .. also for those that might wish to travel to CREDO HOMESTEAD you gotta remember that even 5-6 mils of rain can close these bush roads .. usually its just fine so there's no problem.

Lotta areas to camp around the area which is free .. some with toilets also .. but if staying in the area of the Homestead it will incur a minor fee .. but has elec .. water .. toilets and bar-b-cue areas ..

happy travels Phil ..

Jon

Thanks f that Jon, bit of a bugga, but the bike towin the trailer does nt like gravel, not bad if there is not to much actual gravel on the surface, but might give it a miss... take care..

If you are travelling from coolgardie to geraldton you may pass through mukinbudin. if you do feel free to drop into the caravan park and say hi,even if just for a cuppa. we manage the park and are always ready for a yarn or to meet other members of this forum.

It sound like Jon is setting the nomad's social bar very high, and giving the rest of us a lot to live up to.
That's not saying we're less than well-mannered and polite, but the pressure is on.
I hope we're all not subjected to this "rating system" of nomadic quality.
Jon is absolutely right. Those who are out there have their own personal agenda and challenge which is driving their travel urge.
We all have different destinations and reasons for taking to the road.
There are many bends and crests to peek around revealing new scenery or revisited favourites.
When I hitch up it's to see new places and all the places between. I like to soak up the country as it slides past. If I know anyone living in the area I call in for a visit, but visiting is not my reason for taking to the road.
Nor is it to join some club gathering or other. For me it's about the getting there, and then to absorb the atmosphere of my chosen destinations.
There is just so much dirt between the dots. See you out on the dirt some time.

Hi Tezza ..

Just a few days ago, either Vic or another friend Allen (also from Perth area) mentioned to me about possibly going up there to say hi ..

Unfortunately I've already committed to my current route from here at CREDO to Geraldton .. I will be travelling north from Kalgoorlie to Leonora to Leinster .. then head west to Geraldton via Mt Magnet ..

I'm sure our paths will cross somewhere ahead .. it seems that the land of OZ often shows to be small in size. The number of people I've seen numerous times in various parts of Oz is quite surprising ..

Appreciate the offer ..

Jon

Hi Chris ..

I'm not a person that seeks or thrives to satisfy a social need. Give me the chair against the wall at any time ..

I'm simply living my life as it happens .. and meeting some wonderful people .. Certainly not setting a standard .. I'm happy to be just me !

Jon

I know I mentioned it Jon but for the life of me couldn't remember Tezza's name, only that a couple of GNomads were managing the park.......It's on my list too Tezza, hope to get out that way sometime soon,

Vic

That's the way to go Jon. You're taking the route of my next proposed trip, whenever I hitch up again.
Enjoy.

Hi folksl ..

let me say a big 'thank-you' to you all for your comments and kind words .. Have met so many people .. both nomadic and static !

My contacts on here and also via my HF Radio Club has really made this one heckuvva journey .. and gave me the opportunity to see each in their own environment whereverever it might be.

I'm now into my 4th month since leaving Naracoorte SA .. and have spent (2) months in and around lower WA .. so I must again hit the road tomorrow morning and enjoy the rest of the round trip .. I'm hoping to be back in the area of North Qld in about 8-10 weeks time .. so less time will be spent dwardling about .. starting to like being a slow gypsy now though .. hehe !

I have been unable to see many of you good people and missed many prime spots this time naturally, but I'll be going around again next year and doing it all again and 'plan' it accordingly .. oooh .. such is life !

Cheers all ..

Jon
