Lilly I live near both Emu Park and Yeppoon, if that is any use to you. About 25 minutes out of Rockhampton, and 15 minutes to either of the other two.
I have plenty of room, in a quiet area. Don't remember off-hand what your set-up is, but it would be safe to leave a Caravan parked here, of you wanted to look around.
Thanks so much sheba .. have camper trailer for trip .. my brothers .. waiting to replace my camper at reasonable price ... mine was stolen out of my driveway while i was away at my dad funeral in january not the best month i have i lost my dad ...my cat and my van ...but life go on

About 2 hours north of Brisbane there is a little town called Kin Kin . Turn off the Bruce Hwy at the Pomona TO . 17 kms through some great rain forest country to Kin Kin .
Camp on the oval behind the pub . $5 pn includes power , hot showers , toilets , pay at the pub .
10 kms out of Kin Kin is some of the biggest trees still standing in Australia , at a place called the Doggrell Trail . It's an easy 20 minute walk around the trail and those trees are fantastic .
Good meals at the pub . Also a small store in town with all the essentials .
No fuel though . Fill up at a servo along the highway . Around Nambour is usually the cheapest in the area .
Cheers , and have a good trip .

One of the places we keep going back to is Inskip Point, just in on the coast from Gympie. Just scroll down a bit - I wrote it up a while back. Another free one we liked was Saunders Beach about 20 K north of Townsville, I think it is 48 hour stopover now. Also loved the council park at Kurramine. New camps 6 would be a very worthwhile investment for a trip like this.

My own preferred option would be via the first one as I have travelled it several times and it's shorter with less traffic. The "back" road from Warialda to Goondiwindi, via North Star is sealed all the way and is fine, it is well sign posted.
One caravan park I can recommend is Possum Park, (http://www.possumpark.com.au/) located 20km north of Miles, it's quite unique, reasonably priced, and well sign posted too. They do a rate for single travellers and have a campfire Happy Hour in the Grey Nomad season.
Jim
PS: sorry to hear about your loss, I lost both my parents 14 years ago and I still remember and think of them every day of my life.
