Yay! I finally know what I'm doing for Easter. Going up the beach between Woodgate and Bargara Q. Going with my son in his 4WD and will share his big tent with him. We each have camp stretchers so will be comfy. My brother is already up there, keeping a camp spot for us, and elder son, d-i-l and grand-daughter are coming too. Looking forward to it. Should be great fun!
FYI,, son arrived back from Vietnam in one piece,,kind of. I've finally heard all the gory details from himself! He sliced open his foot above the big toe and up towards the ankle. Six stitches, but I reckon they should have put more in. All things considered, it looks pretty healthy.
Thanks Pam. Yes, such a relief. Now he says he's going again in July. *groan* Can't help but worry, even though he's 35!
Yep, hope to Marj. The rain is supposed to stop by Thursday, so fingers crossed. My brother tells me there's lots of water holes to go through, hence why I can't take Gypsy. She'd probably float, but my bed would be wet!
Lots of lovely beach spots between Bargara and Woodgate. I would go in to Elliot Heads, park at the C/P there and wander the beaches on foot. Would be too worried about getting stuck the way you are going but at least its your sons problem and not yours. Have fun.
Should have said, No matter what age they are you will always worry about them. Mine are 42, 38, boys and 28 girl. I worry myself stupid and get told to chilax, I will worry myself into an early grave. Go and live my life and if something happens they will let me know. And of course they are so right.
Yep, I'll always worry about them. My boys are 37 and 35, my daughter 32. I understand these days why Mum always worried about us. Our kids will understand it too one day.
I wouldn't be going to this beach spot if it weren't for the others. My brother in particularly, is allergic to camping anywhere near anyone other than family and friends. He's a real bushy! And the harder it is to get to, the more he likes it! I was really surprised that he came to Jondaryan with us. In fact, it was his idea! But we did camp way down the back, away from others.
I tried to attach photo's of his foot, but it wouldn't let me. Maybe because I 'stole' them from his facebook wall.

Trevor here.I just returned to Burrum Heads .My son in his wisdom has decided to return to Brisbane and the other to help at the Burrum Easter Classic fishing comp.
I know you son will be an experienced 4x4 driver but make sure he does not take a run down the spit expecting to be able to get back to Woodgate on the river/estuary side.I am told some of the GPS units say you can drive all the way to the end and round the spit and get to Woodgate.
We have had four totally bogged and flooded 4x4's in the last two years. The last one was under for three tides.Brand new Landcruiser
The sand is a very thin layer over some ripper mud. Previous one was a 4x4 rented camper.Sank up to the bumper bar.
Hope the weather is kind to you and have a great time.

Thanks for that info Trevor. I'll pass that on. I've since found out that we go in from Childers.... Goodwood, Coonarr, and Palm Beach Roads. My brother is already there, and he's very experienced with the area. Apparently the camp is closer to Elliott Heads, but I'll be sure to tell them about the Woodgate end. He said the sandflys are really bad, so I've packed Bushmans, Off and coils. So I think I'm ready for the little buggers!
Beth I now carry Telfast 180's for the itch. At least if they bite me and I don't itch, theres no infection, they make such a mess. The 180's are one for 24 hrs, which is great.

I must be a binge thinker. I do it a lot at times, then, not much at all.
The sandies weren't that bad, although my brother was compaining, so I figure they must've liked the taste of him!
It was a great spot right on the beach, and behind the trees. The weather was beaut, and just pleasantly breezy. The road in is very rough,,,definitely need 4WD,,,with big waterholes to drive through. It was quite an adventure getting in!
We decided to go for a drive on Saturday to show my elder son Bundaberg, Bargara etc, as he'd never been there. When we reached Bundy, both sons decided their car batteries weren't doing the job properly in regards to car fridges, so we spent some time chasing up batteries. We had a fish and chip dinner at Bargara, which was just great.
Yesterday became windier and cooler, with a short shower in the morning,,right when we were going for a walk up the beach!
All in all, a great time was had by all. My almost-two-year-old grand-daughter loved the whole experience of camping and the beach.
