ATM PIN Number Reversal - Good to Know !!

If you should ever be forced by a robber to withdraw money from an ATM

machine, you can notify the police by entering your PIN # in

reverse. For example, if your pin number is 1234, then you would

put in 4321. The ATM system recognizes that your PIN number is

backwards from the ATM card you placed in the machine. The machine

will still give you the money you requested, but unknown to the

robber, the police will be immediately dispatched to the location.

All ATMs carry this emergency sequencer by law.

This information was recently broadcast on by Crime Stoppers

however it is seldom used because people just don't know about it.

Sounds good to me, cheers, rob.

Wow, lets take Robell out the back and behead him guys. no

Just maybe he thought this was true and just maybe he thought it would help some helpless member here.

So its not true, I think, being supposedly mature adults, a much better constructed response than that attack may be taken more favourable.

Bit harsh, hope no one ever responds to one of my posts so nastily. omfg.gif

AND he wouldn't be the first member to post something he thought to be helpful but was the wrong info.

At least now I know which "fires" not to sit around.  I have been in Rob's shoes, not a nice place to be.  There is such a thing as tact.

Brickies, I agree that misinformation needs to be pointed out, we all agree with that.

We are all mature adults, not naughty kids, just speak to us, as members, the way you would speak to a family member if they do something wrong or silly.

Think before you post, not nice to be lambasted they way Rob was. no

I believe that the intent of Rob's post was to assist; ok, the info has been discussed in previous posts in the past as not being factual but there are better/nicer ways of conveying the message........would you express yourself this way face to face?

Lets continue this forum with the decorum it deserves,

cheers,

Dont worry Rob, Just keep on doing.. There are some that just sit and wait for some one to make a small mistake and they flame them.. Just smile and think ,they most likly have nothing better to do.. must lead a dull life to be watching and waiting for things like this... Its not the post its the thought that matters..... The flamer must have had a bad day , and Im sure if he had the chance he wouldnt have said it in such a blunt manner, there are PMs. that can do the job and all is well... Dont be put off by a small mistake, If your not makeing them your not learning anything.....

In order not to create disharmony on the forum I've toned down my original response. However I stand by my view that before just "cutting and pasting" potentially misleading information from emails that "do the rounds" one should at least do a quick search to confirm the veracity of the contents.

Jimricho, not sure what your original post said as I have only come onto this thread now, but I for one have NO PROBLEM with your current response, and appreciate the fact that you made it. Sending a PM would have been pointless, then the rest of the forum members wouldn't have been informed of the inaccuracy of the original post.

Then also, there maybe people who are rather new to computers and are still learning how to use them and are not sure how to check these things, so, maybe a few words of help and encouragement could be in order. Rob

Reading these threads with intrest, good on you Robell for alerting your fellow members to what you thought was a legitimate solution to a real problem.

I think Brickie should take a little look at how he replies to something he feels is not right, we are here to help each other not bash some one who is only trying to help over the head.

Gidday Rob, I read your post and found it a little hard to believe !! so i was going to ;google'' but i finished reading the responses, now I don't have to ???

However if i did google it and found it to be 'incorrect' i would have then replied to your post with a Sorry mate but this is a furphy ! and passed on the relevant information to prove it as such. That way you would have been corrected and the other members would know it was incorrect

So do not let the heated, responses of the few on this forum that Lack Tact worry you as this is a great forum with a lot of great people, it is just a few who have been around here for a long time, that 'think' their opinion is law.

your welcome around my campfire anytime, you to firefly, and Ma,  dazren

With all this technology among us, some are more up with it than others, and if we can help each other avoid being conned, scammed or hacked, then that's a good thing.
There are so many of these "furphies" out there, it's sometimes hard to separate the good from the useless information.
There are places on the internet to check these pieces of advice on the website Jimricho quoted, or Snopes to clarify.
While this technology is a wonderful thing, there are crooks out there doing their bit to cut us off at the pass to rip us off. For every virus they find a cure for, there are 3 waiting in the wings to infect our computers. For every new programme there's a new scam.
If we can pass information on to our fellow nomadders, with the best of intentions, it's unkind to say the least, to reprimand in no uncertain terms for their efforts.
Some of us are wiser than others in these matters of technology, and some of us have more comprehensive computer skills than others. That's the beauty of this forum.
I'm a typist who uses a computer. I'm not a computer operator.
Good manners and tactful responses go a long way. Reprimanding only gets people's backs up and alienates affections of GN friends.
Don't underestimate the intellect of our fellow "man". Don't be too quick to judge. We don't all have the same skills, but we do all have skills.

I was recently turned off joining another caravaners forum due to the sort of nasty comment that goes on over there. I still monitor that forum & am glad not to contribute there and have noticed that recently a number of posters have vacated the site & stated their reason for doing so, ie: Rudeness/clickiness etc etc. I believe this forum is above that sort of nonsense, which is why I ever so recently joined.

For me, I will never type or reply in a way that wouldn't replicate what I would do or say or act in person towards another. I always treat other people as decent folk until they do otherwise towards me. I remember years ago saying something to my father that was a little abrupt & he was quick to clip me around the ear & remind me that manners cost nothing.

Good on you Rob for posting & good on the guys for pointing out this is a furphy, everything else is irrelevant. In actual fact, by Rob raising this information here there may just be a person getting about who thought this was real information & this very subject clarifys if form them, perhaps a blessing in disguise.

The amazing thing about the internet is all the rubbish that floats around on it. Anyone who uses the internet as a source for information would be wise to check their source before proceeding.
