Posting Links.

I use this method to post Links.

Whenever I want to post a link, I go to the relevant Page, then in the toolbar click on Page.

You'll get a dropdown box.  I scroll down to "Send link by Email", and click on that.

When the Email box appears, Copy the Link, then Delete unwanted items, and Paste.

All done.  Hope this simplifies it for you.

Cheers,

Gayle.

Try this method....

say you want to link to the Aus goverment Scamwatch site....

1. open the site in a new tab or window

Links 1.jpg

2. highlight with the mouse the sites address in your browser's address bar and copy it....(edit ... copy or right click on copy)..

Links 2.jpg

3. Go back to the window/tab where you are composing your post and paste it into the text of your post...

Links 3.jpg

(note that you can change the text of the link as long as you don't change the actual address that you'll be entering in the dialogue box further below)

4. Highlight the address you just pasted..

Links 4.jpg

5. click on the little icon that looks like the links of a chain...

Links 5.jpg

the following dialogue box will appear...

Links 6.jpg

6. paste the address you copied into the "Link URL" dialogue box...

Links 7.jpg

7. Click on Insert and ..Voila!....   The address is now underlined indicating it is a clickable link

Links 8.jpg

The hypertext link/chain has never worked for me. How else can one add an hypertext link?

Maybe it is different for different browsers, but for me, using Firefox, the Quick Reply option does not give the ability to convert the text into a link. Using this thread as an example, and Ctrl V then Enter, it becomes ...

https://thegreynomads.activeboard.com/t42641496/posting-links/   i.e. it is not clickable

Quoting a comment as I did here automatically invokes the Advanced Editor, or you can invoke it with the button at the bottom. That enables a menu that includes the Link button (an image of a chain link). But the Link button is not activated until text is highlighted. So, Ctrl V to paste your link, go back and highlight that text, click the Link button and Insert gives  .....

https://thegreynomads.activeboard.com/t42641496/posting-links/    EDIT. See below

A far better solution is based on Jimricho's post 10 years ago, and similar linked by Dorian (I posted in that too). But instead of Jimricho's method, start by typing a meaningful text that describes the link you are posting.

Here is a useful discussion on how to include links in posts.

To do that, I typed the meaningful text, selected it, then pressed the Link button. A popup panel appears. Ctrl V the link into the URL cell, in the Target box, select Open in New Window, and Insert.

So, decide if you want a quick and dirty, or is it worth spending another 10 seconds (once you remember how).

Edit. It appears that the second method does not work correctly as it is not clickable. Tried again but still not clickable/

If you wish to use the hypertext link you must first provide a heading and highlight it with your cursor. When you highlight some text you will note that four symbols up the top come to the foreground.

Before highlighting

Highlighting - before.PNG

After highlighting

Highlighting - after.PNG

Note the before and after changes. After I highlight a heading I like to underline them and put them into italics, that makes them stand out more. After you have your heading ready and the extra symbols are showing, click on the link and follow what the others have said.

I like to make my headings meaningful when posting links. I think it is a bit silly just using the URL as a heading in most cases. When you are linking to a page, that page usually has a heading, copy it and use it as your heading (either whole or modified.) It makes things much clearer when you do that. If the piece you are linking to does not have a heading then create your own heading.

That often produces broken links. When you use the link tool the links are more reliable (providing you have not introduced finger trouble, finger problems often result in links not being produced.) Links with proper headings are more meaningful. I always think our purpose in replying to others is to educate and assist them. Please use a little more effort and produce something that is more helpful to others than just bland URL links. Others are assisted more when you take the attitude of producing quality than quantity.
