You could use an inverter 12V/240V, since its a resistance a cheap MSW inverter would do, but it needs to be a bit larger Wattage than the Electric blanket. Presume you only want to warm the bed then turn it off, to save power.
Have read on other forums where people run their 240v electric blankets via an inverter for about half an hour prior to bed. If I recall properly they claim the power requirement was not that great. However these people seem to have large 12v systems with a fair amount of spare capacity. So depending on your 12v system/battery capacity this may be a solution.
We purchased a 12v electric blanket (car blanket) from Jaycar a number of years ago to go on Shirleys side of the bed. First trial use at home it burnt out the supplied cigarette plug. Changed the plug to the Hella type and all was fine.
Used it a few times, for about 30-60 mins before she went to bed but she found that a couple of Hot water bottles did a much better job. So I retrieved the Hellas plug and binned the blanket.

Darling forget about the electric blanket and buy a wonderful Webasto diesel heater. Darling I am in love with my Webasto. Set the control darling for 6.30am and get out from snuggled in bed to 20c. Darling dont care how cold it gets because when 3c in the van the Webasto starts up and raises the temp to 8c and then turns off. Darling what a wonderful invention Mr Webasto made for travelling.

Re the use of an "el cheapo" (mis-named) modified sine wave inverters.... as Daryl points out these are fine for use with an electric blanket, but be aware that MSW inverters are unsuitable for use with sensitive electronic equipment (such as laptops) if were planning to use it to do this as well.
thanks everyone, tried the rum and the fella; both gave me a headache. Webasto soiunds good will look into . thanks again for taking the time to help. Jaki
