Well done Jonathan! You're certainly making some miles, and making the most of your travel experiences. What was the condition of the Kimberleys? They've had a big wet up that way and some bridges and roads have been washed away, so what did you encounter? If you haven't been to Darwin, now is a good time to do it. You're only around the corner from Katherine.

Good on you Jonathon - we seemed to spend forever in WA on our trip over there - loved most of it - missed some of it - had intended to go back - maybe I still will in the future. Don't forget to get in touch when you are down this way.

We have also just spent the last 7 months here in WA & loved it, beautiful coast & lovely colors including the brilliant red dirt & cliffs & the amazing wildflower. Loved Margaret River & we're now in Broom & love it here too.
Next stop is the Kimberlys & El Questro then on to Darwin.
Cheers
Jon

Is the road to El Questro open? Everywhere has been very wet I hear. There are a couple of river crossings to go through to get to the camp site.
Yes it is open from the east side, I rang them & checked a week ago. We will be leaving our vanmaybe at Zebra Rock Gallery near Kununurra & tenting it at El Questro for a few days
Cheers
Jon

Yes .. El Q is open .. and the Bungle Bungles is now also open as of (2) days ago .. The big wet certainly had some effect across the top end .. but the amazing resources of the locals (and Councils) have really made a positive impact. Road 'washouts' have been replaced with excellent detours and diversions. Between Broome and here (Timber Creek) there are still numerous potholes, but are quite shallow and continuously being reviewed and rectified and travel is hardly hindered ..
Not sure yet about Darwin on this trip .. as I hope to leave Sth Aus around March next year and shoot up the centre to Darwin then .. from there, back to WA again .. but this time anti-clockwise.
.. and its starting to chill down now already too .. The Alice was down to 3c last night apparently, and I, like others, like to avoid the cold if possible ..
The Tablelands (Mereeba) in Qld are looking so inviting again .. so will spend some quality time there .. the Rodeo and its attractions sort of got me last year and so will do the same again ..
Yep Jules .. I need some practice before I get 'hammered' by you though in the bowls as I haven't played much lately .. but quite looking forward to it ..
Miss the west coast, lived and worked in Perth before moving up to Kununurra to work but still have brother in Kununurra last up there in October 2010 when I brought my hi-ace camper. Having great weather on the tablelands at the moment but mornings and evenings starting to chill down... Hope you enjoy Mareeba again when you get here great place to base yourself for awhile.
I really do like the Mereeba area .. and that's my 'long-term' rest area once I get across the top. Spent time there last year when I was up there for my sons wedding last August at Palm cove .. and I find the showground area (rodeo grounds) just a nice distance from town as I motor about on a small scooter .. and as you say, it has great weather ..
life is so good some times .. just dunno what I wanna do when I grows up !!
Well Wombat, I like despite the fact you live there. Joking! I loved WA before I knew you lived there. It's my favourite state, and Perth is my favourite city. Who knows, I may end up over there again, sooner rather than later. The Tablelands are beautiful too. So productive and the people are great. The Cairns Sing Australia group would join with them for special events, and they'd come down to Cairns to join us for special events. Great community!

Goodo Jonathon - I like Mareeba as well - doesn't seem to have the same humidity does it? Good place, and friendly people. I like WA, havent done the bottom corner, but will get around to it one day. Havent decided where I will head next year - just got to get over this year, then things will have settled down, hopefully, and I'm hitting the road!!!!!Yay!!!!
