G'day all,

I have ventured over into this forum (and website) as I have only recently found out about it.

I am a retired Police Officer and since retiring in 2007(after 26 years doing that job), have been to Broome twice (from Sydney) and taken a couple of different ways up there and back.  Recently traveled to Perth and return, via a few other places.

I have managed a van park for 6 months in Mt Gambier and worked here and there just to do something with my life.

I love photography, fishing, golf and anything else that gets me out and about in this wonderful country.

I currently own a LC100 and tow a 21' Supreme...and recently made a purchase of a rooftop tinny.  I have owned my current van since Sept 2008 and have done 30,000km with it...and it is my 3rd van.

Love free camping....

I hope to be traveling soon after I sort some family issues out and I am a solo traveler.

Am also a solo traveller Dunco. Welcome aboard .... I frequent a couple of vanner forums (and vehicle ones) .... this one is a pretty goodun - more 'homey' if that is a way to describe it.

Yes welcome Mr Ex policeman....I'd love to ask you a few questions down the track if thats Okay.....Mainly in regard to having a cold one on the side of the road.Meaning key in the ignition bit....I'm still not clear about  the Law there.....Maybe after a few post you can help me.....Once Okay   Welcome from me too

Welcome Gary. It seems there are a few of us who do this lifestyle alone. Better alone then not at all.
I enjoyed your site. The WA photos made me homesick for Broome and the Kimberley, even though I'm an original SA.
That's what travel will do to you.

Jimbo, I am only too happy to answer any questions you have...if I can remember the answer biggrin

 

Regarding having a beer on the side of the road.  The Law is that if you are ATTEMPTING to put the car in motion, not if it is sitting idle in a rest are.  So, if you are sitting in the drivers seat intoxicated, and the car is in DRIVE with engine running, then you will be nicked.

An example of when it is OK is an incident some years back where a bloke was asleep in his car, drunk as, with the engine running, car was in PARK and handbrake was on.  He was sleeping in his car with the heater on as it was cold.  Police arrested him, but it was dismissed at Court as he was NOT attempting to put the car in motion.....but, if I found someone asleep in their car with the engine running, intoxicated, then I would remove the keys from them for safety....and probably drive them home.  Police have the Power to remove keys from someones possession for this reason....
