I am giving you an "A" for perserverance Cupie.

About a year ago, I had a similar problem. I was fast reaching the "tearing my hair out" stage because nothing I did seemed to work.

I am not one to give up easily but I simply didn't have the time to keep "fiddling" with it.

My solution was to take the easy way out (for once) and open a Windows Live Mail account. I gave that addy to the friends who send lots of pics....problem solved!!

Don't talk about bloody computers. My laptop, running Vista (which I hate) allows me to make replies like this one on the GN site.

My PC, running Windows 7, restricts me to the "quick reply" option and I cannot start new topics. Go figure.

And yesterday I foolishly installed the latest Internet Explorer version, which is nowhere near as good or user-friendly as the old one.

Gawd, no wonder a bloke drinks!

I'm about to change to Windows 7...but I haven't heard of those problems before.
Can any other techie savvy GN shed any light on this...pretty please... smile

As for your IE probs...I am guessing you have installed IE9...
If you uninstall it....IE8 will automatically re install.

I'm afraid I'll stick with XP for as long as I possibly can. I've seen Windows 7 on a friends' 'puter, and don't like what I see.

As far as I'm concerned, "If it aint broke, don't fix it."

When it comes to planned obselescence Henty Ford was an amateur! IBM developed the concept and Microsoft perfected it.

PS: System restore can create more problems than it solves unless you really know what you're about.

I too was quite comfortable with XP but Win7 came with the new laptop.

In general I find it as good as XP now that I have used it for a bit & read the Dummies books when I am unsure of something.

Been lucky with system restore up to now .. touch wood.

I love the Windows live Photo Gallery that comes with Win7 (don't know if it can run on XP .. probably not) .. Does almost everything for my modest needs in touching up photos.

Good too in that you can burn DVDs & not just CD like XP.

Having said that I would not have 'upgraded' by choice but was lucky in that all my peripherals had Win7 drivers available. Not so for some of my old software.

I'm resisting going to Windows Live Mail but even Leonhard's 'Win7 for Dummies' prefers it over Thunderbird. Might have to get used to not downloading all my mail. I refuse to buy Outlook!

Just bought myself a book reader thingy - now only have to work out how to use it - might need to get a grandson involved methinks!!!!

I have XP pro installed on my laptop and have a shareware DVD burning program installed. Can't remember what it is as I'm using my home computer at present, it only has a CD rom. I'll check it out if I remember next time I fire up the laptop. I use WLM for my email client.

I bought the laptop a few years ago just after Vista came out and I specified it had to be loaded with a licensed copy of XP. My computer "wallah" organised this and a recovery disk as well.

You can embed pictures in WLM by going to Insert Image InLine. You then select the image file in the dialogue box. You can adjust the size of the picture by clicking somewhere in the picture and dragging on the image "handles" on the border.

I can understand why you cleared clear of Vista. But Win 7 seems to have cleared up all of the Vista issues.

I might just play with WLM for a few weeks on my 'public' hotmail email address to see if I like it.

With XP you need a separate DVD burning program .. I used to use Nero, but there are lots of shareware free bees available.

DVD burning comes as part of Windows 7. That was what I was refering to.

Just checked, it's an OEM version of Nero I'm using for DVD burning, it came with the DVD in the laptop. The shareware program I was thinking of is WinX DVD Ripper. It'll do a "like for like" copy of a DVD. If the DVD is copyright it will copy it right!

After earlier rants about and against computers in general and Telstra in particular, I have to eat a certain amount of humble pie.

The PC that would not allow me to do much on the GN site is now allowing all sorts of things, including a real reply like this one and starting new subjects. Amazing what a switch-off, reboot and all-round kick up the electronic bum can achieve.

And I installed a new Telstra Turbo dongle on my laptop yesterday and it's working a treat and at quite a good speed (for the information of those on the road). On sale at Dick Smith for $79 including 2GB of data, expiring in 30 days.

Small reservation: to activate the new dongle, I had to call Telstra (Bombay, I suspect, but her English was good) and give them:

Name

Address

Telstra mobile phone number

Telstra home fixed line number

Driver's licence number

Date of birth

Not really, deeply happy about all this info being on file somewhere in the electronic universe, but I wanted the connection to work. Which it did.

Thus ends my experiment with Vivid Wireless (capital cities only). When it worked it was very good indeed. When it did not work (most of the time) it was bloody hopeless. My house (14km from the centre of Perth) is in a nasty little internet/mobile phone black spot. Roll on the NBN.

I hope soon to report on how the new Turbo dongle works in the bush. Until then, Cheers, Tony.

I have Windows 7, came with the new laptop also. Never had a problem with it.
When I send photos I do it through my hotmail. Just do an attachment, go search for the photo and attach.
I do reduce the size of any of my photos on the laptop before i plan to send them.
This is because my sister in NZ has quite an old computer and the old dialup. She has a lot of difficulty opening the photos unless they are reduced in size.
Other than that it is really quite simple.

I think you can select all then save as into my pictures then just click on them.
its easier than opening each attachment.

windows 7 is much better i think than windows vista, but im not reaol happy how they
changed internet explore, you could try the fire fox browser or google chromes browsers, both
pretty good

also a tip for sharing alot of pics
creat a photobucket.com acount and up load your pics there
then find the option to share an album (group ) of pics , copy the link
and past here or an your email and they can click on the link to your photbucket album
and bobs your uncle..
