I am on my 4th one now, had them many years with boats and have always done a dual registration on them, boat and vehicle. If any of your details change remember to updaye the rego of the unit. cheers blaze
I agree Gordon that they are expensive and have long thought that government should offer a subsidy on them. They cut down the time and expense needed to search for someone and thus the costs to police, SES, RFDS etc. Be well worth the money and help save lives.
A couple of million dollars out of the budget for rebuilding the burnt-down boat people camps should cover it easily. In fact I'm going to lobby my local MP about it.
Cheers, Tony

I have had them for years on my charter boats, but, luckily, never used them. The new 406meg ones are more acurate the the old ones(I have 2 in the shed you can have if you want them-they don,t work any more), but how much is your life worth. The new ones will signal the authorities with a few meters, and I , for one think they are good value. The price will come down as people buy the 406m ones. Please , only use them in a REAL emergency.
Yes a must item, we have one and you must register them or face a fine if caught with one in you boat not registered.. You can reg. them on the net in 10 min.. I got ours at rays tent city for around $290... but you can get one thats real good to a few yards"mts" I know im old... Yes Bill I pulled the old one to bits to get the lith. batt. out and after 9 odd years they were still good and ran the clock for a year..AAs.....

http://www.gme.net.au/products/emergency-beacons/plbs/MT410 This is the one we have (with the GPS). It usually lives in the OKA cab, but can be put on your belt if walking or out in the tinny. We brought ir to Fiji with us and it will still do its job here too (we advised the Australian registration authority it would be here).
But once again the Australian Public are being ripped off by huge mark ups.
You can buy all sorts of Epirbs from virtually any country online and save big bucks.
BUT and it is a big BUT,
.
AUSTRALIA will not register any bought overseas.
The thing is they ALL operate from the same satellite system and any EPIRB bought overseas will send the emergency signal and it will be received. The drawback.
YOU ARE NOT REGISTERED SO NO INFO FOR THEM TO FIND YOU.!!!!!!!!!
