Well, have decided that I would rather be warm than cold.
The van has had the brakes done and the oil leak fixed and have decided to keep it. I hardly use it here as I am close to everything by foot, but I think I will have to head north every winter.
Thought I could last out a winter here in my new abode at the Sunshine Coast, but as soon as they install the solar panels on the house at the end of June, will head to Cairns.
I am looking for any housesitting opportunities that anyone might know about up there, as I don't want to stay in a park. Cairns can be a little tricky in regards to sleeping in the van when not in a park.
Hope that I might meet fellow travellers on the way or up in Cairns.
If you are looking for some free camping up that way and prepared to go a little inland and down a bit, there is Fletchers Creek about 40 ks north of Charters Towers. I met 2 different couples who were heading there, both intended staying about a month. They both said just sit back and relax, no costs and town not to far away if you need to stock up. I will be trying it out next winter.
That's his baby photo. You know at a normal birth the Doc gives the baby a smack. Well at Jonathan's birth the Doctor took one look at him and then smacked his Mother....
Good for you Christine. I'm coming down that way probably mid or end of July, so I'm going to miss you this time around.
My youngest sister is at her House-sit near Woodford for 3 months, and another one lives at Glasshouse, with the 3rd in Brisbane, so I'm going to visit them, and probably go out and say "Hi" to Jules before coming back home.
North for the winter ??????? from the Sunny coast - boy you guys - south is cold Melbourne - just about anywhere in Qld is better than that in the winter - go there you will really know what cold is and appreciate what we have up here more. Anyway - does it have to be Cairns - why not out at Mareeba where Jonathon is? At the Rodeo grounds? Could even be work out there - if you want it. Have fun

Hey Jules, Melbourne has been quite pleasant for the last few days. Granted it is supposed to end this weekend but we take what we can get at this time of the year.

We've been here, in the Rodeo grounds, for nearly a month now and haven't
spotted you yet Jonathan, which part of the patch are you on?
As for finding work at the grounds Jules47, why would one want to do that?
Surely at our time of life, relaxation is the way to go especially in this
wonderful warm sunny climate

Wow must be a few out at the rodeo grounds if you haven't bumped into each other yet? I will have to come out for a drive one day and check it all out,.
What a coincidence you both being in the same place and not knowing. I wonder how often that happens and why we don't see other grey nomads when they really are just a moment away.
I daresay it happens quite frequently .. but thats ok .. some folks might know you're there but may not wish to make the contact .. and I have been in that situation myself .. so it still leaves us all with that 'last-chance" option ..
but .. you can try again another time .. or see someone else !
Have a good friend here who has been singing and also writing his own tunes for ages and we cart all our stuff down to a small stage area and have a bit of a bash .. a good chance to practice and get carried away with the moment.
Some folk drop in, listen for a while then move on .. so its a great venue to get some practice without being too concerned about having a professional attitude ..
send us some warm weather jonathan lol ...... winter only just begun and i think most of us have had enought already i know i have cold here we got to a big 11 today and cold rain as well

I think when it comes time for me to leave FNQ, its going to be a difficult decision .. but I have been here now twice to get away from the southern winter .. and I'll probably keep doing it while I can.
Its never been so cold .. well .. only since Global Warming .. haha !
