12 June we attended at Cracker and Bonfire night at Rowena, a very small village near Burren Junction Pool camp area. It is about 40k away. It was a fantastic night. Entry was $15 per head which included bbq dinner, huge selection of cakes and slices for dessert, tea and coffee, bonfires and a fireworks display. It was wonderful, there were about 1000 people attending and everyone had a great time. The night was to raise funds for the local Pre-school. Its amazing that a very tiny community could put on such a fantastic night. They need to be congratulated. Will be back for more next June long weekend.
Yes, we had them as kids too, great fun, all the kids would build there own in groups and make a Guy Fawkes up in old clothes stuffed with grass and a hat etc and put on top. It was an unwritten competition to see who could build the best bonfire and have the best Guy Fawkes. Of course there was a bit of robbing each others bonfires of firewood, and even some nasties would set fire to yours the day before, there was a little bit of jealousy around.
And of course the crackers, Tom Thumbs and double bangers, catherine wheels and the huge single crackers (called bombs?) and not forgetting the skyrockets !! It's good to see someone is at least still doing it Val and Rob, looks like they didn't have a Guy Fawkes though?

NO they didn't have a Guy, pity. No crackers for the kids either, just a magnificent firework display. In days gone by we used to love the morning after, running around finding any un-used tom thumbs or fireworks some other kid had dropped!! Ahhhhh those were the days!!
