I have seen the country from both sides, and can truthfully say that its beautiful from both sides, sea and land. I useed to an officer on a coastal cruise ship, and have done the big lap, so I suppose I qualify. PM me if you want more info. Bill

I don't have any cruise experience, but I can't see how seeing Aus from the water would be better in any way than grey nomading it on land. Aus is so vast you really can't see anything but the very edges from the water, imagine just how much you would miss out on.

Just got back from a cruise on Sat (18th). This was a 46 day cruise that circled the Indian Ocean but of course that didn't let us see muchg of Oz coastline. Nonethe less is was a very enjoyable time. Lots of pampering. No cooking, cleaning etc. My bed got made twice a day (with a chocolate left on it) Great shows at night. Now we are back to reality - but as permanent grey nomads that's a great life as well. Cheers Alic e

Lots of my friends, some caravanners, are absolutely in love with cruising.

SWMBO & I both are not attracted to (our perceptions of) the restrictions of cruising .. but a day cruising the Rhine was great as was the overnight from Italy to Greece.

We are slightly interested in Europe river cruising & maybe the English canals ... but the cruises into the South Pacific etc hold no allure for us.

Might just try one to see if we are missing something.

OK Cindy, not sure if this will qualify, but we leave next week to take our rig 'overseas' by ship to Tasmania!!!

A good way to see some-thing of the Northern Coast of Qld. is to join a ship in Cairns, going to T I. and Torres Strait Islands. Supply Ships and Barges mainly, but they sometimes make stops at interesting places along the way.

Pejay, have you been to Tassie before?

I went with a friend last year...Feb/March....

We toured around for 5 weeks and I loved it,
Everywhere you go is so pretty.....but too cold for me I'm afraid.
Be sure to take plenty of winter woolies.

I worked on prawn trawlers from Wiepa to Kimberley coast in 76. The experience made me hungry for more and I enjoy both land and sea travel.
I don't think sailing from Kingscote, Kangaroo Island to Port Lincoln on a very rough night counts.
Or working on the Murray River Queen from Goolwa to Big Bend counts either. But most of the passengers were grey nomads.

Hi Pam,

I have been to Tassie a couple of times, but Pete hasn't - hasn't even seen snow!! However we are going for a special reason - hence the timing, but considering Hobart's temps have been warmer than Canberra's and we survived that, we should be OK.
