Daly River Barra Resort - any feedback?

We are thinking of going down to the Daly River Barra Resort from Darwin to try our hand at some fishing. I have searched the internet but have not found any information from other caravanners.

We would like to know what the road is like into the caravan park and what the park is like generally. We would want to stay about 5 days if we can put our tinnie in the water and do a spot of fishing.

Catching a Barra is on our bucket list!

Hi Mike,

I stayed at "Wooliana on the Daly" http://www.woolianna.com.au/ several years ago and it was a very nice spot. From memory(?) the road was sealed apart from the last few ks but with a memory like mine I'd suggest you confirm this.

It was during the "run-off" (April), weather was hot and humid but caught some nice Barra.

cheers, smile

Jim

(PS: I charge a consultancy fee for information such as this!  I'll collect when I'm at MB wink)

Banyan Farm is another good place to stay, the sealed road ends at their front gate, their phone number is 08 8978 2461, Rod

I caught a barra in the Daly River, but I had to send it back to get its mum and dad.
I think we stayed at the Mango Farm. Road was acceptable for caravan. Some power, amenities acceptable. River better. We fished in the tinny watched by a gallery of "snappy handbags". I'm always thankful they haven't developed a taste for aluminium.

Thanks to all. I have had a good look at the three 'parks' available and will be making enquiries today. The one thing that bothers me is whether there are lots of mosquitoes or midgies. I ended up in emergency in Exmouth for treatment and do not want to go down that track again! Oh, yes, the "snappy handbags" are a worry too!!!!

Once again great help on this forum. I will certainly be posting a photo of the big barra we caught - hopefully as big big as the one that justcruisin has posted.

Start taking Mega Vitamin B now, then there are several commercial and other home made potions to deter the mozzies and midgies. I had a bad experience the first time I was attacked by sand flies, but none since, as long as I washed the stinging parts immediately to wash off whatever it is causes the sting on the skin.
Safe and happy travels, and good luck with the barra. The Daly River is a beautiful waterway. We went right down toward the mouth where it splits into the delta.
There was a big daddy handbag standing guard on the island at the branch off. The biggest croc to date.
