Reading the Mailbag on here - and seeing photo of the amount of water in Bonnie Doon, Lake Eildon, Vic - reminds me of some photos taken of Eildon in about 2007 -
bit off topic here Jules, hope you do not mind but your avator is a bit dark so I thought I would lighten it for you, if you want to use this lighter version you are welcome to.
My parents live near Eildon and the dam is full - local papers say something like 87-90% and they are letting water out to take into account the amount of rain they are having up that way - trying to avoid flooding of low lying areas.

Thanks Wombat - but the less people see of me the better, in my opinion - hate having photo taken!!!!! And Esmeralda - the water in Eildon is amazing now - we camped at Fraser National Park in about 2006 - and walked out on the lake bed to a house tht had been flooded when they built the dam. There was also a wedding on the lake bed - youg couple met there when both families camped over several years, got married - it was lovely to see. This sure is a land of drought and flooding rains, eh??

Lake Eppalock is the same. We have property 10 minutes drive from there and have spent the last few years enjoying driving on the bottom of the lake - seeing stumps from old shearing sheds, old fences, etc. At one stage the lake was no more than a creek - very sad to see.
Now it is overflowing - when we went there earlier in the year the spillway was going over by about three metres. Great to see
It has come back to life with boating and skiing and hopefully in summer, swimming . . .
Looking forward to having such a big swimming hole not far from our "weekend place".
