Got notification in the Mail today from WORLD PROPERTY ALLOCATION, that I'm the lucky recipient of either [my choice] a 2011 AUDI Q7 SUV, valued at $ 54,200.00, or a Cheque to that Value.
My wife reckons I'm naive and hopeless with money. Wait till I tell her about the $10 million we've won in the Nigerian lottery! And the ticket only cost $5000!

Yeah! I won that one too, but I "forgot" to send the money. Bugger! If 1000 suckers paid the $25 the crooks would be $25000 richer and the losers would be $25 short. And that's the average these scammers count on. I've had rich rellies die in the Netherlands, Nigeria, Malaysia, Canada and if I send the money I'll get the money. Yeah, right! NOT!!! If you have a look at the return address on the envelope the chances are very high it comes from a Business Centre in Stawberry Hills, NSW. If indeed it is an actual business address, why hasn't the Federal Police closed it down? As they say, "Don't send money!"

A friend's father received a letter telling him he had won a substantial amount of money. He was asked to send $150. He wrote back to them and asked them to just take the $150 out of what he had won and send him the rest. Needless to say he heard no more.
I got an email saying that there is an overseas mob in one of the Slavic countries sending an email pretending to be the Tax Dept and asking you to fill in some details and click on a tab for a refund. Even their link is marked as the tax dept with a slight difference but fake. Apparently it is an identity theft and whatever scam......

We just have to be careful and scam savvy or lose your dough. I've been doing surveys online and I think some of those contacts sell details to the scammers. If I can't unsubscribe I know there's a problem. I was receiving emails from a regular contact, but they didn't make sense. They were about a get rich quick scheme working from home. He knew nothing about it when I asked him. We then concluded he'd been hacked and they were using his email address to send out these crooked emails. I have my emails on preview and I don't open the dodgy ones. I just delete them. Eventually they stop, but I do mean eventually. They can be very persistent for a long time. Mongrels!

If only I had a dollar for every scam letter and email or phone call I have received I would be a multi-milliionaire by now.
The latest I have had is the phone call telling me I have a problem with my Microsoft PC, only problem is I don't have a Microsoft PC.... they get realy p1ssed off when ya let em go and then tell them that the pc is running non microsoft software.
Gotta love it, a mate of mine speaks fluent hindi and several other indian dialects so he just rattles off at them in their own language, really gets em going, its quite funny to listen to.
Stay safe be spam aware, as they say, if it sounds too good to be true it most likely is...

Had been getting some of them for a few months from people I didn't know before I finally got one supposedly from a friend. Immediately checked with her, and she knew nothing about it.
Needless to say I'd already been deleting them anyway.
Those who forward emails without deleting all the attached addresses and those who don't use the BCC (blind carbon copy) address box when forwarding any emails to multiple addressees are playing right into the hands of these b@st@rds.

With emails, I just go delete, delete, delete, empty trash. As for the phone calls, if I'm not pressed for time, I sometimes like to 'play' with them and let them ramble on and on using their money making the call, then say, 'Not interested' and hang up. I figure they waste my time, I waste their money. Just lately though, I've been getting calls that come up as 'Private Call' on the LCD of my home telelphone. Now when either my mother or mother-in-law call, that also comes up, so I have to answer the phone, but when there's dead silence on the other end, I hang up immediately. In these instances, no-one has ever rung back.
I think you just have to think: If it's an email that seems too good to be true, then it probably isn't, so ignore or delete it. If you don't know the people to whom you are talking on the phone, then really, how do they know you? It's just plain, good, old-fashioned common sense.
I am registered on the Do Not Call Register (www.donotcall.gov.au) which keeps nuisance calls right down.
The Do Not Call Register Act generally prohibits the calling of registered numbers for marketing purposes. The Do Not Call Register Act 2006 makes it illegal for any non-exempt Australian or overseas telemarketer or fax marketer to contact a number listed on the register.
I still occasionally get a call, and then I just politely say "Did I ask you to ring me?" and when they say "No" I just say " I am on the do not call register. If you call me again you will reported, and be subject to a $120,000 fine. Have a nice day."
It's easy to register online, costs nothing, takes a minute of two, and done! I love it.

As Jim said, don't send on jokes etc with the details of others email addresses on them and ask the receiver to delete yours before onforwarding.
This is a good bit to add to your jokes, emails etc. Remember anything you send can end up anywhere around the world as many people have friends overseas they send jokes to etc, etc. See;
I have a policy, I do not use the forward function, do not forward email's or jokes, (unless requested by the owner of the email address) FW email's get deleted automatically by Mailwasher Pro, I don't even see them.
As Jim said everybody should have a private email address.
My opinion is that the forward function should be removed from ALL email clients.
I always tellt hem to deduct the fees from my winnings and send me the "change". They told me they weren't authorised to do that, so I write that, "I hereby authorise you etc....." I'm still waiting for the change. The ones that come in snail mail, I just write "RTS" on the envelope and post it again. Just be careful.
