Herald Sun/Weekend travel cetre spread

Mr. Crisp  (  Editor)
Have you ever considered doing a spread in regard to the Grey Nomad invasion and the free camping spots in and around our great Country..Im not sure if you our your superiors realize the thousands that or on the road Enjoying their retirement and spending the Grand childrens inheritance.I may add that the reason we like free camping is because of the high expense in Caravan parks and most love the freedom and space offered by this so called Free camping.

Thank you for allowing me to voice an opinion..

Yours Jimbo             Bacchus Marsh 10th July 2011

This is in answer too my email to the Herals Sun

The most recent shock for me has been the recent caravan prices in Broome. $55 per night per site.
I'm shocked and disappointed at this town's monopolisation of the tourists. While the prices are so high, the people still come, but it must really hurt the travellers.
I've stayed in a pub for that much, and I didn't have to make the bed.
This town's blatant greed, even publicly published in their flyers and posters, is just abominable.
I'm so disappointed.
If they kept the prices down people would still go there, spend more, stay longer. For every van pulling out of a park, 10 are waiting to get in, so they never miss out. If they continue to charge such outrageous prices for a patch of grass and a powerpoint, the people will bypass Broome and they'll miss out completely.
There aren't many free camping places either.
The town's Mayor manages the council's only park, Roebuck Caravan Park. If that's not a conflict of interest I don't know what is.
If you've stayed at Broome recently, within the last 3 months, and you've been disappointed or shocked at any experience, please write to the local paper to express your thoughts.

This is part of an article in The West Australian newspaper in the caravanning section recently promoting this park;

"Vacation Caravan Park, Broome.

In the peak June to August period, Vacation Village powered ensuite site are $53, powered sites $45 and unpowered sites $32. Cabins range from $138 and Chalets from $190.

Now is a good time to make a booking....for 2012....."

can you still book ahead at that park, I thought Broome was not bookable, but I could be wrong.

I know a lot of travellers say avoid Broome. That is fair enough trying to help others from getting stung by the high costs. But, we want to see the attractions of the area so what alternatives are there? A couple of years ago there was a lot of conjecture about Kakadu or Kakadon't as some put it. Again fair enough,  personal opinions. We have to find out for ourselves if the cost is worth it. I'm not advocating the costs or pricing in Broome but want to get a balanced perspective on the pro's and con's. Will take my serious hat off now.

Terro.

Terro, if you have never been then it is a place to see and decide for yourself a lot of people go there every year, personally for me once was enough, but then I do prefer the bush.

hope you enjoy your time in Broome
