Having been a bit on the worn-out side last week, felt I'd like to report we are all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed again.
Yesterday we went on a sea-plane trip out to Horizontal Falls, and had the most exhilarating day, absolutely fantastic! The tide wasnt as big as it can get, but its just as well, as it was quite exciting enough going through that huge water-race in what felt like a little boat.
The scenery in the area is beautiful too, we enjoyed the flights up the coastline and back to Derby.
Thoroughly recommend this one!

Sorry vic, bit confusing. The sea-pane dropped us off at their big boat with extra pontoons and house-boat moored together, then we climbed aboard a powerful speed boat for the exciting "shooting" of the falls.
Thanks Gerty, I was having a heart attack just thinking about it......what a great experience you had, one we all would like to do but some of us never have (I haven't, maybe one day).

God I miss that country! What a spectacular experience. I've steamed around that coast on a trawler, and also off Cable Beach on the Sea Rescue vessel, but I haven't done the waterfalls. Watching the water run in and out of Carnot Bay around the floating island, north of Broome on the Dampier Peninsula was an amazing experience. All that water has to run in and out twice a day, up to 12 metres at Derby. It's an amazing phenomenon.

Hi Gerty Dancer, when we got to Derdy, all the tours to the Horizontal falls were booked out for the next 3 weeks - stayed 2 days there, then pushed on to Broome. At broome you could do a tour that included - fight over horizontal falls to take photos - land at Cape Leveque for lunch - swim in sea for an hour - return flight along coast back to Broome. Would recommend this tour. We circled a pod of whales on the way back - Magic. Would have liked to do the boat through the falls out of Derby, but for a couple of $ more this was sensational........

It's just such a pity Broome has become so greedy for the tourist buck. The latest price I've heard for caravan parks is $55 per night. That's ridiculous in any language at any time of the year. If you can find a cheap place to stay, the region is definitely worth a visit. Maybe check out some of the stations near Broome and Derby. When I was on Anna Plains we had facilities to accommodate a couple of caravans, or guests in the guest house, and I'd get to take them on tours of some of the country, and 80 Mile Beach. It just takes a phone call to check it out. I don't know who is running Anna these days, but all you can do is ask. You might get your own personal experience.
