Carbon Tax compensation payment.........
Permalink Closed

Gday...

I am a self-funded retireee - no other income (no fruit picking next year) - pay no tax and get no Govt payments. I hold a Seniors Card,

I just went to the Clean Energy website ..... and got this info .....

Support for self-funded retirees

Self-funded retirees who hold a Commonwealth Seniors Health Card will receive the same amount of assistance as age pensioners.
This will be worth $338 for singles and $255 for each eligible member of a couple.

However, when I used the "estimator" ... it gave me nonsense .... there is no 'field' to say I am a self-funded retiree and the figures and comment provided have no relevance to my situation.

To get the money a self-funded retiree needs to hold a "Commonwealth Seniors Health Card " ........ soooooo, I do not !

Guess Julia ain't givin' me nuffin .... no

Cheers

John

Now correct me if I am incorrect...

But isn't this whole carbon tax a little bit whacked out?
If I am correct in my understanding they are going to tax the miners and the likes for their carbon emissions, which in turn increases costs for the consumer, which in turn the government is going to refund us for - um so they taking the money from them, giving it to us to compensate what they are charging them and them charging us.

Seems to be a lot of knackering around to balance out a problem they (the government) are creating.

And oh, has anyone cast a thought to what would happen if we were to become a totally carbon free emitting world - well for one there wouldn't be one, we'd all be dead!!! Plants, trees etc all need carbon for their daily existence, without it they keel over. Without plants and trees we would loose food sources, building materials, paper materials, heating fuel (wood fires) and whatever other manufacture is sustained by plant and tree.

If it was a true emissions reduction tactic, where would they get the revenue from to make up what they'd lose if everyone reduced their emissions to zero?
They're taxing the fuel, not the emissions.
So when there are no emissions where will they get the revenue from?
It's not law yet, so let's hope it gets lost and scrapped.
It's embarassing to watch the leader of our country make such a public fool of herself. She's really looking stupid right now.

The health care card is available to SF retirees aged 65 and over, same as the aged pension. It is subject to a means test based on taxable income but this is quite generous compared to the pension. There is no deeming or assets test.

I think we are being unkind to Julia, give her a break, she is not the driver behind this, that position belongs to one BB.

Hey Rocky , Full of Bull here .

John , I reckon , they reckon we are full of s**t ,

we are just talking s**t , so with that .

My conclusion IS . S**t contains methane , that's gas ,

a carbon tax is applicable . SO normality applies .

They give with one hand , but make sure they take more with the other .

They're taxing the fuel, not the emissions,

Prevention is better than cure.

Why is it so hard for people to see we are makeing the mess, why shouldnt we have to pay to clean it up..

There will never be a zero emissions or would we want that...

Carbon Tax ,is the best thing to happen, NOW we pay, yep you and me. so stop crying and get on with it ..
its the world we live in guys so face up to it, its that plain...
But you will always get wingers, if you were handing out $50 notes they would complain...
Our world is so good just now look around, lets not stuff it...
The little lady had the guts to do what a lot of big guys didnt....
History will be the judge ,

I still have have a problem with the effectiveness of a tax. I have no problem with cleaning up pollution. But, those that can pay will go on as they always have, and the little guy will have to cope with rising prices.
The famous 500 will find the money for the tax by putting up the prices of their products. If we knew who they were, we could possibly boycott, but I suspect they supply essential services like energy production. We all need energy to some extent.

Yes, those who blindly believe that throwing money at every problem will FIX them, have no idea what they are talking about, they refuse to acknowledge that the END user, that's you and me, are the reason the problem exists in the 1st place, that is ofcourse, if you believe that we have a problem (which they do). On one hand they cry, "Save the planet, reduce pollution, pay a carbon tax, get rid of the filthy stuff, end of problem all FIXED"...on the other hand, they just keep on keeping on, I am yet to here one of these people say this "As from today, I am selling the oil burner and buying a smaller car and a PUSHBIKE, I will walk to venues less than 1 kilometre away, any further and I will ride my bike, I will dispense with my air conditioner and flat screen TV, etc, etc, and oh, I will also go to bed within 1 hour of sunset so as to REDUCE my carbon pollution and do my bit for the planet". No not on your sweet nellie, I will just pay money, keep doing as I do, and I will feel all warm and fuzzy, it will all go away.

This is the complete hypocracy of these 'TRUE BELIEVERS', because the LIE is within their own actions, as notably displayed by the Parliamentary leaders when they turned up on CARBON TAX sunday in their limousines, and yes that included the leaders of the pack, The GREENS. no

Crikey guys, have a look at the posts here and ask yourselves how many of them add anything to the discussion apart from stridency, swearing and ridiculous assertions (really Benwerrin, not a single person is doing anything to reduce their energy consumption? What, not anyone?)

Hi guys,
I think we've had a good go at those issue. I know that sometimes these sorts of toipics can get a bit heated and a bit personal, so thanks all of you for showing some restraint. In any event,  I might close this thread off now as I believe this forum's strength is our togetherness and our generosity of spirit, and we will most certainly be on safer ground in less emotive and less political areas. Thanks for your understanding. And thanks all of you for continuing to help to make this forum such a vibrant and interesting place to be.
