Its no use waiting too long if you want to head north to the warmth. Now is the time to be up there and perhaps coming back south around November when the humidity gets out of control. If you can stand the heat up there over the summer thats ok, but my son who lives up there finds it uncomfortable. So anytime between May and November is the time to go to Qld, in my opinion. I saw on the news you've had a terrible lot of rain over your way. beautiful up here in Echuca. Suns out, blue sky and should warm up soon, got to 17 yesterday.
Kenny - if you're itching to go then just head off. You don't need to know the best time to head off - just choose the destination appropriate to the time of year. Australia has somewhere perfect to be at every time of year.
Right now, the weather here in the Top End is just perfect - day time highs of 30 or so with cool and pleasant overnight lows of around 20. Just sleep with a sheet over you and a lightweight blanket in case the breeze chills you off.
The cool weather has put the barra down, but the muddies are around and so are great eating alternatives to barra like threadfin salmon.

This will clear out the southern CPs for me in Sept Oct.
I'm off in Sept thru Cunnamulla, Bourke, B Hill to Hawker for a flight over the lake & a stopover in Birdsville, then by a route to be determined back up the coast to Brissie by end Oct.
So, make room for me in those Vic & NSW coast CPs.
