Our woes continue

We're still stuck, now parked up at a station just outside of Kalgoorlie.  Cost of breakdown down over $6,000& rising.  Still to get our turbo back from Perth probable cost about $1000.  Then to top it off 2 days ago our computer failed.  Well the computer works ok but the hinge on the lid stapped & tore out connector wire so we can't see anything on the screen.  So yesterday we spent $800 on new computer.  Will it never end??? Not so cheery Kandagal

Aw diddums! Here, use my forum shoulder to cry on.
Seriously you've had a really awful run. What did you do to deserve all this trouble?
I guess it's the downside of older vehicles reaching their use-by dates. Everything needs maintenance or replacing eventually, but one wouldn't think they'd need replacing all at the same time.
Do you have an income generating activity when you travel? Maybe you'll have to come out of retirement to top up the vehicle fund.
All the best to you and for your travels.

Kandagal,
Had similar problems 3 years ago. Was up at lake way near Wiluna looking for gold. Wife smelt funny smell in Van. Yep, Amonia gas leak. Rang fridge mechanic in Kalgorlie, "Sorry mate, cant help. It will take me 3 weeks to get a new cooler over from Dometic in Melbourne, then I cant fit it for 2 more weeks". Rang dometic in Melbourne, very helpful. "Go down to Perth and see Joe Blog, he will have one in stock".

We drove to Perth, and yes , "I can fit it overnight". Great, we decided to stay at our sons place in Perth. Had to park the L.Cruiser in his front yard. Plugged in the Engel on 240Volt. Engel was full of frozen food. Came out next morning, Back of cruiser was up. Yes, Engel was gone along with Gold Pick, New vacuum cleaner, (Never used). All my tools. But left my $4000 gold detector behind. 4 days earlier Ctec battery charger failed. "They have a 5 year warranty said dealer" Great Ill take it back to Perth and have it replaced under warranty. This also got stolen before replacememt.
Went to go onlne to buy new Engel. Computer stuffed.

To cut a long story short. Cost about $5000 for a couple of days. Plus 2200 unwanted kilometers.

Yep, fully sympathise with you.

John

Dont you hate it ! just when you think you can see the light at the end of the tunnell a little pop up says,>>>>>> due to the decline in the economey the light at the end of the tunnell has been turned OFF untill further notice.<<<<<. never did like tunnells.

What a bummer,I thought I was the only one that had this kind of bad luck. As I always say, If it wasn;t for bad luck I;d have none at all.

Hope it all comes good soon mate.

Maybe you killed a Chinaman in another life ?

There's only one way things can go now, and that's UP.   Take care, and I hope it's not too much longer.

Cheers,

Sheba.

Thanks for all get well wishes (for our motorhome & appropriate equipment). No word from Perth about when the turbo will come back. They originally said 3 days. That's long gone. We did bring a chinaman from Perth with us to Kargoorlie (he went back on the train before all our woes started). Maybe we should have kept him. He's a good one though. When he heard of our troubles he phoned straight away to ask did we need help with money. We said no but it was kind of him to offer. Good friends make up for all the other bad bits & peices. Cheers from Kandagal

Hi Kandagal,

Sorry about the expensive trouble. Hope it works out ok..

I had a computer that did that too...a dell, to give it it's due it had been putting up with my grandson for a few days.

Is your Rig a GMC? or an older Airstream?...I cannot see it well from the image. ...its an eye stoppers!

cheers Sharon
