Went and saw the movie today, won't say too much about it as I don't want to spoil it for you, but well worth seeing.
The movie was made on the last (3rd) book on the Red Dog by a Brit with a French Name, his was the third book about Red Dog.
Two previous books were written by Australian residents, the first by Nancy Gillespie some years ago, but now out of print. It is available for perusal in libraries in the Roeburne Shire.
The second book was written by Beverly Duckett in 1993. My wife bought it in Dampier Tourist Bureau about 2000. It has the story of Red Dog, actual photo's of him and poems.
A West Australian also wrote a song about Red Dog, sang and released it a number of years ago, but it wasn't used in the movie according to the vet who attended Red Dog who was on Curtain Radio (100.1). The vet now has 8 Red Dog Vet Clinics in WA.
Yes, his book/books on Red dog are shown on the link I put on a post above. It shows two books or covers by him, so don't know if the cover had been changed at some time or he actually wrote two.
looking forward to seeing this movie, do have the book by Louis de Bernieres so will read that again before going. Also remember seeing the statue of Red dog years ago in Dampier..
I really love going to see movies on the big screen, Milo, but mate you are so right about people who text and FB on their mobiles in there. I find it irritating too. Actually, it's bad manner as well, because you're asked to switch mobiles off when watching the movie.
Heading slowly from the Pilbara to wildflower country too Vic. Have just been in Karijini, and there is a huge variety of wildflowers here. Maybe our paths may cross somewhere?
Thanks for the heads-up about this book/movie, will watch out for it... should be even more interesting now we have seen the area.

Manners! Manners! What manners? It seems mobile phones and other aparatus don't seem to be part of the manners protocol. Anyone younger than 40 don't know anything about manners.
What's the world coming to?

Hi Vic, Thanks for the information, this seems to be a real word of mouth movie, I was at my book group last week and three people said how wonderful it was, and we rarely comment about movies. I wonder if I should put it up for my book choice? Sounds like one edition is difficult to get anyway.
Sounds good to me Sharon, he must have been some dog!
I'm home now Gerty so will be staying put for awhile, catching up on medical and other stuff, saw Dr this morning and then went to a decal sign place and had a couple of maps of Oz with the Southern Cross on them (one on the front and one on the back) put on the van, won't set the world on fire but they are ok!
No photo's yet.

There were three books written on Red Dog, the first two by Australian authors, Nancy Gillespie followed by Beverely Duckett (we have that one) on this link they are shown as Books 2 and 4. Click on those numbers on the link page and it will show the others. All can be purchased on online from this link, although Nancy's book is currently undergoing a reprint and may not be available yet.
There was also a song about Red Dog by a West Australian songwriter/singer, I believe the site owner is trying to track that down at the moment, it was not used in the film.

Thanks for the link and info on the song writers/singers of Red Dog Pam, I see there were two muso's who sang it, might be worth getting the album, I wish they had a sample on that site.
Yes, that youtube was funny Boroma, I have a feeling we are going to get swamped with Red Dog stuff for awhile.......
