Always Maintenance

We get our rig set up to suit our needs. Everything goes fine for a couple of years, and then something goes wrong.
Not through lack of maintenance, but just natural attrition.
My split system aircon has just failed to warm. Everything works except the warming part, so now I'm subject to a refrigeration mechanic to regas and sort it out.
Yet another expense.
Know anyone looking for an oversize pilot? Yes, I am overweight, and yes I am a pilot.

Just head north & forgo the heating setting for the still working cooling settings. Go north young lady.

Still need gas in aircon. Going north is the best plan, but just where is the dilemma.
While I love Broome I don't think I could afford to live there anymore.
Perth is a good option.
Hopefully I'll get enough work north and west and the aircon won't matter much.
I'm suffering from emotional strangulation here at the moment. When I come to terms with the relationship with my girls I may free myself enought o go again.
It's a Mexican stand off. I can't visit them and they won't visit me. Life goes on.

Cant help with warming your family relationship, but a little fan heater for $20 or less will warm your van quicker than the air-con, and quieter too. But if you have to get it gassed then forget the above. Good luck Granny

I agree -- mine is the best $20 or so that I have spent for a while.  I have a reverse cycle air conditioner but it doesn't heat hardly at all.  The heater is fabulous and can be used for drying damp doonas etc when you leak (ha ha).

Before you spend money on it, ask some questions.

I found out that mine (Air Command Ibis) does NOT work at ambient temp 2 degrees and below, so if it is that cold outside, it may just be the way the unit is.

I found this out from their website !!

Thanks for that Dunco. I thought mine had given up the ghost. Luckily I had a small $20 fan heater. This actually was warmer than the ibis.

I've carried the "reserve" blower heater for all those years, so I'm good there.
The split system aircon was working very well, until a couple of weeks ago. It was making a dreadful clattering noise in the morning only. I'd turn it off, and then start it up again after a while and it was quiet again. The noise got to a disturbing level so I shut it down, pulled the screen off and checked if the fan was hitting anywhere but it wasn't. The shaft spins freely with no noise, so it's not the bearing.
There's no noise from the internal unit inside the van.
Then it started taking a bit longer to get warm. The inside fan was working, but not warm unless I cranked it up to about 26 degC, and then dropped it back to the standard 23 degC, and it would go really well, until the noise began in the morning, the coldest part of the day/night.
I'm good at asking questions and watching what goes on because I like to see how things work, or not work, as the case may be.
I'll keep you posted. It's not an inverter model.

getting an ice build up around your fan is my guess CG, not an uncommon thing on older aircon units in the cold. Newer system have a auto deice which you are doing manually by turning off
cheers
