Nancy Wake , Australia's most decorated WW2 servicewoman died yesterday at the age of 98. The Gestapo knew her as the White Mouse during the war & she was at the top of Hitlers most wanted lists due to her exploits in the French resistence, helping allied soldiers escape and becoming a liaison between London and the local maquis group. She coordinated resistance activity prior to the Normandy invasion She also led attacks on German installations and the local Gestapo HQ.

Nancy Wake's story was told in a 1987 telemovie, Nancy Wake, which was released as True Colors in the USA. She was played by Australian actress Noni Hazlehurst.
I was reading some of the comments in the Brisbane Courier Mail re this story. The one below by Jason of Ashgrove is very valid in my mind. I dont know about other states but my girls knew nothing of any Australian wars from their schooling in the 80s and 90s.

If only we were taught about these kinda people at school in history!!
They made a Movie about her......I'm not sure but I think it was ( Carve her name with pride) Great Movie...
I learned about her when I was at school.
Wrong lady Jimbo. That was Violette Szabo. I might be wrong, but I think she was married to Churchills' Brother or cousin. Her daughter came to Australia with her mother-inlaw after the war. [ Violettes' that is.]
Cheers,
Sheba.

She was a great woman and exceedingly brave. I used to work with her great niece.

She was one of the 3 greatest Australians OF ALL TIME! I was fortunate to meet her briefly and it was one of those times when the hairs on the back of my neck stood to attention, as did I. She was basically ignored by the self important bureaucrats who control the Australian military awards. She truly was "THE MOUSE THAT ROARED"! Today, not only Australia, NZ, GB & France lost a national treasure, mankind did.
R.I.P WHITE MOUSE.

Read the book by Peter Fitzsimmons a few years ago, just got it off the bookshelf will have another read of it soon, I just hope one of the TV stations will show the film as a tribute to Nancy Wake.
Yep rapidroy. Have to agree. Happy to share her great history with you Aussies. They breed some good ones over there don't they. (Slaps myself on back)
