Ok, where does every one have their gas bottles refilled?
I had two done yesterday at BCF (boating ,camping fishing )
I was quoted $14.25 per 4.5kg bottle. I presented my membership card,{You just fill in a application form , no cost involved} & paid $13.25 per bottle.
I checked out a Coles servo with the swap n go system, A 3.75 kg <yep, they are getting smaller as well> was $25.95 per bottle.
Is there no end to what these buggers want ?????

Haven't done my swap and go yet but I know Bunnings have the 4kg for about 22.00. If we had a BCF here thats where I would be going, Quite a difference in price.
I beleive the swap system is the most expensive,Tried it a couple of times but found the 4.5 kg bottles are not readily available, there is also 4.00kg, & 3.75kg all of which there is several different styles of bottles, some a little taller, smaller in diam, taller collars on top etc etc, all of which do not fit into the holders & under the cover if fitted.
I got back to the correct one & now have the filled.

Thats a thought justcruisin. Mine only just fits into its compartment so wouldn't want a variation. Might have to do the rounds in town, see what they've got.
In our area in Sydney a swap & go 9kg ( actually only 8.5kg) at most places are between $36.50 and $38.50.
Lpg is sold to it suppliers per litre and then they sell to the public per kilo. It is a huge profit.
Currently we are only on the road 5 to 6 weeks a year and dont need to refill during that time. We do have five 9kg bottles. I found a service station near where my mother lives, I think is a Gas & GO. They refill 9kg bottles for $14.95 each. Weekends they usually have one man filling bottles most of the day.

Just paid for a 9kg refill at BCF in Darwin for $17.95, normally $ 19.95. This is the best price I have found & not expected considering the prices for most all else.
terry PS I only ever get refills of my own bottles.

We get it re-filled wherever we happen to be, and the price varies quite a bit. The swap'n'go system is definitely dearer than a refill, but you gotta do whatever you gotta do when theres only one choice!
I get mine filled at a local shop. They weigh it first and then weigh it afters and only charge me for what was filled. Have never paid more than $10 a refill.

That's the proper way to do it pre and post weigh in but many places just assume the bottle is MT and charge for the stamped bottle volume which is always a rip off in favour of the supplier

Bugger I just paid $28 at BBQ's Galor in Alice Springs, should of waited will be in Darwin tomorrow.
Anyway back to topic I always shop around.Cheapest I have had is $15.95 on central coast. I did pay 24.50 for a 4kg in Denniliquin early this year.
I like to get mine filled as I once did a swap and go and silly me didnt check the date. Good lesson learned always check to make sure bottle is up to date of next place may not take/fill for you.
After reading this I think I will look around for someone who fills my bottle, interesting reading. Now just to find what shops do that. Do you go to a service station, Mitre 10, Camping store or where?
I only use Swap & Go when the bottles are approaching 'out of date' status as they don't check. This is certainly the dearest option at around $9 - $10 dearer.
The cheapest in my Brissy area used to be BBQ galore but they closed the local outlet & it's not worth driving to another.
I use a camping store on a street where there are two close together and therefore good competition.. Usually $18 - $20 for a really full bottle.
The Bunnings Swap & Go are never full right up and you've got to look carefully at the date as they are sometimes out of date or nearly so. I always choose the newest one with the same circumference as my restraining clamps on the van if possible.
My bottles are always completely MT as I run them out on the BBQ. I have never used a fill station where they weigh the bottles. Maybe a local thing. They just close off the screw valve when the gas pouring out is excessive & charge a standard fee.
I have had a 9Kg bottle filled three times this year .....
PlumbTec in Sale Vic (only re-filler) - $26.95.
Hardware Store in Biggenden QLD (only re-filler) - $32.00
Plumber in Biloela QLD (one of two plumbers who re-fill) - $43.00 (now THAT made me gasp and I queried it and all I got was a blank stare - not even a response) I shoulda asked BEFORE I got it filled.
Travelling full-time I am a bit at the mercy of whatever town I am in when I need one filled.
Have never used Swap-N-Go bottles - don't trust the bottles (size varies as some have said) and not always full I have heard from many.
Cheers
John

Bunnings in Broome? Now that's new. Where is it? I used to get my filled a the Kimberley Camping etc shop. I had my reverse cycle split system aircon filled on Friday. It was behaving weird and struggling making funny noises, so the man came and regassed for $120 all up. Different gas of course. Oh, the air con is nice and quiet and working just fine. Have to keep warm.

The system used in N.Z is the same .Most servos have a set of scales where you can weigh your bottle, attendant fills your bottle less the amount of gas still in the bottle.Fair and square and no robbing the customer.
