Have been buying discount tins of tomatoes, sultanas, long life noodles, milk, beetroot, and whatever comes in and putting together a stack of this for when we go on a long trip.
Hi everybody, We should probably clarify that Lighthouse Calvary Care is a registered charity that is dedicated to helping people cope with the spiralling costs of groceries. We have spoken to the organisation and they say they are more than happy for grey nomads to come in and take advantage of the great offers they have. The store is for everybody … not just people who are in severe financial hardship. Just thought it was important to clarify that point. If your budget is tight and you are in the area, this certainly could be a way of saving a few dollars.
Low prices are great but where does the produce come from? This eating thing is a two-edged sword. We need to keep our prices down but we also want to make sure the products are safe and from reputable manufacturers. Does this organisation have equivalent outlets in other cities?

We've started changing up our eating around; meals that take 15 minutes tops to cook, and that we can make last for 2-3 meals. Our food budget has dropped massively since we started this. We eat REALLY well, fish, steak, chicken, steamed veg, soups and salads.
We've gotten it down to less than $10 per meal for the two of us.

Yeah - we usually get away with $4 at most for a luxury meal. We have felt the crunch badly since the power price hike, and having our son and grandson living with us.
Food prices are hurting everyone, I think any and all tips are appreciated, I know I appreciate the Hell out of them. Will be stopping in at Lighthouse when we (eventually) get to Queensland.

Meals can be made up quite cheaply with some innovations. When I buy a pack of mince, usually around $5.00worth. I break it into 3 lots, freeze 2 and with the 3rd into a big pot with onions, garlic, potato, pumpkin, mushroom and a bit of stock. First brown it all then add the stock or dry stock and water. Add some Risone towards the end. I get 2 meals out of that one. Its cost me practically nothing. Can add what ever veges you favour, Its yummy and I'm having the 2nd of the two meals tonight. The other 2/3rds of the mince is in freezer for another time. I will definitely go to the Lighthouse Calvary care when in Brisbane. Will make a note of it in my book. You can get discount foods at NQR down here, don't know if they are in other states but not as cheap as Lighthouse. NQR is Not Quite Right stores, they sell dented tins, nearly out of date items. Have quite a few shops around Vic. I know there is one in Bendigo and two down in Geelong. They are proper grocery stores run as a business. (Not charity)

I am sure there was a story about it on a current affairs program a while back. They showed people going in and buying and explained it all. Will go shop there whe nI get up that way. Also want to go to Lollyworld on the north side of Brisbane as well, sounds interesting.
