What kind of Grey Nomad are you?

Hi Folks

We've noticed there seems to be several different types of GN's...

1. Those who's rig is their home and are permanently on the road.

2. Those who return home after each trip which can be from a few days to  several months, going to different destinations each time.

3. Those who travel "North for the Winter" and stay in the same site at the same caravan park year after year, enjoying an ongoing social group.

4. Those who arent grey yet, travelling as a family while their children are young enough to be away from school for long periods.

5.Those even younger, from overseas who rent/buy a small campervan and see as much of australia as cheaply as they can

One  of the joys of travelling has been "people watching", and as its been so busy in WA, theres been plenty to watch! smile

im guessing im a number two as we have a business and cannot leave full time as of yet ,we do go away for a few days here and there and everywhere
within distance of home though, but we are gearing up to go to birdsville pub for a run over five days should be very exciting.

Not quite sure where I fit. Work restricts how I would like to travel, for now its a couple of days here and there. I have a couple of favourite spots if a short trip and explore a bit further a field when I have 4 or more days off.

We are 5-6 months per year Grey Nomads. This is ideal, it means it is a good break and gives us time to maintain our farm on our return. And hopefully catch up with other Grey Nomads when they stop over with us in the Winter and Spring.

Bent Axle Bob left the farm a couple of days ago after 4 days here.

and don't forget the wannabees too.

I've been hosting backpackers mostly from overseas for the last 3 yrs or so, many of them doing it in clapped out old campervans. People take advantage of them and sell them grossly overpriced vehicles. There are some amazing young travelers around - wish i'd been so together at their age.

Also hosted an Oz family travelling with their 3 kids in a caravan all at primary school age. The kids are having the time of their lives and get lots of education meeting up with interesting people from all over the world... needless to say they weren't too keen on doing their home schooling stuff.

I can't wait to get going permanently. I will be working online while travelling. Time line is probably March.

Diversity is the key to rich experience and appreciation of how wonderful our world is. May there be many ever evolving kinds of GNs all contributing their experience and wisdom to our collective experience.

I think I'm a Number 2, go away for a few month in the winter generally up north to different places but also visiting family up there.
Then in summer more likely a few days at a time around the southern states. Returning to home base either way.

Not sure where we fit. Have been on the road for 12 months, now heading home.
Will definately be still heading off on the road again in the near future. Perhaps a few times a year, ranging from a week to 3 or 4 months.
Whatever anyone does as long as it suits them and is a fantastic experience.

I'd be a no 2 also.....I have a wife who is'nt into it as I am.....We have two little dogs that can be a handful....Took them to Mildura not long back for a few days....Wife was'nt too happy with them after it rained......Hello Popeye!

Looks like most fit in the no 2 category, I'm in there also for the moment.  Not sure I would want to give up my home altogether I think it gives you that bit of security knowing you will always have somewhere to return to if needed.

Yep #2 for us too ....every 10 weeks we go off for two weeks mainly free camping away from caravan parks .We are off to Glenbawn Dam in four weeks for two weeks camped right on the waters edge so I can watch my fishing rods ...Cheers Bob...

interesting Questionnaire Gerty Dancer, I believe we will be no 2

We do not have our MHome as yet, but did live on our boat for 4 years, I found that I really loved it, but not having a studio was a problem. We ended up buying a house that was easy to leave, and used the boat frequently. 

With all this information in our back pocket we ordered something small but diverse, allowing us to take off for months or days with ease and still have the house.

We will be No#1 when we do take off, for at least a couple of years, all going well, don't own our own house to come back to, so who knows where we will eventually end up, a bit scarey when you think about it, but What the Heck, Why Not.

#2's for us, we tend to go on short trips around 4-6 weeks at the most , suits us.. especially with both us having not the best of health over the last couple of years..
