Since leaving home in early July, the following has happened to us:
While at Bagara, we met "Stevo" fellow Grey Nomads, who were planning to be on the road on 9/9/11 - at 9.00am
Town of 1770 - at restaurant, Mr D saw a lady that he worked with over 30 years ago in Byron Bay. They chatted, she is now owner of "The Tree" at 1770.
In Emerald, several weeks later, I recounted the above story to a couple "at the clothes line" The lady asked me if Mr D was in fact John H - she also worked with him at Byron Bay over 30 years ago.
As you do, the couple we met in Emerald were also at our Free camps in Longreach & Winton.
Heard via the Grey Nomad forum that Stevo was finally on the road (early) and tried to arrange to meet them in Winton, however, timing was not good, we were "job hunting" and they were in a hurry to get to WA, so the opoportunity was lost - they were leaving at 8.00 the following morning.
We entered Winton Hotel to hand over our resumes, chasing work for Outback Festival in late September, ignoring couple drinking at the bar. Finished our "speil" and turned around to find it was "StevO" So we finally did manage to catch up for another drink.
At Birdsville, having drinks with the rest of the work crew at the caravan park, mentioned my brother & wife meeting a lady called Olive in Western Australia - one of the work crew asked if their names were Anne & Geoff - Geoff is my brother. The person who asked the question travelled with them for several months.
Way to spooky - far more spooky than Min Min lights
regards

DUNMOWIN is no longer on the road and still DUNMOWIN!
Yes, as they say 'only six degrees of separation'. If we hadn't won a free night at the Matilda Country Caravan Park we would not have been sitting at the bar of the Winton Hotel when Dunmowin' came in to do their 'speil'. Also the owner of the pub was a Bundy boy and Paul had worked together with his brother on trawlers in their younger years! Definitely a small world. We are at Kununurra now for a few days and are loving being back on the road! Hope the rats don't give you any grief at Birdsville, John and Lorraine!
When I am talking to strangers during our travels I am always very careful to refrain from revealing too much detail about myself.
For no other reason other than to be sure who you are talking to.
So many times I have met people who have been near neighbours or distant relatives or know us from somewhere.
Every trip we do we meet some one whom we know or are familar with.
A man walked past our campfire one night 100km into the bush and I thought I recognised him. On his way back he stopped and spoke, yes I not only worked with him 20 years before but we were both in the same sporting club years earlier.
That is just the way life is, we did a trip to Sweden in 95 and met some people we know in Denmark on top of a church steeple.
Another person I hunted with in Sweden on the plane home to Hong kong.
It sure is a small world and you will meet friends and others you know all over the place.
