There is a new one early next year to be held at Avoca Vic. 24/25th March 2012. Mainly Blues. More info on www.avocamusicalfestival.com Camping area on site, lots of wineries in the district for when you need time out from music. Should be a good weekend.
ours is the medieval fair/festival each year at Gumeracha in the Adelaide hills, like it so much the bride and i got married there last year, 50 guests and thousands of on lookers not sure of the dates for next year but it's early in the year around april may

I avoid festivals like the plague. Like Baroma, they mean big crowds and now where to stay, and forking out heaps of dough or the privilege of attending the town. I did the Pt. Fairy Festival in 08, but only the main streets and waterside. Not the oval activities which cost heaps. There were stalls and shops were open. I went to the Tunarama Festival at Pt. Lincoln last January. It was the 50th anniversary and I had worked with the committee for a few years, and it was an opportunity to visit my daughter and my friends who still live there. It's a free festival. The foreshore has most of the activities, but you have to pay to go to the dinner and the outdoor concert. That was a hoot. All sorts of music all weekend.

Glen Innis Celtic Festival is one of our favorites. We camp cheap at the showground on a carpet of autumn leaves for 3 days & enjoy the dancing, music, costumes, food & events amongst the standing stones. If we're lucky we may even indulge in a spot of haggis.
Cheers

the Majors Creek festival is great, low key in a nice setting and lots of talent. I also used to go to the Canberra folk festival - it wasn't too pricey and was flexible with ticketing. I also went to the Parkes Elvis fest a couple of times in the late 90's - good fun but I wouldn't go every year. The Adelaide fringe was always great again with lots of ticket options to suit budgets. That started to get more and more expensive though.
I also enjoy food festivals but again they seem to have shot through the roof price wise.
Cripes - haggis in Glen Innis - that could be the go.
I can get a bit festive around a camp fire with a few friends, thats the biggest crowd I like. Often my peace can be found sitting alone listening to the music of the earth, wether thats out in a desert or watching the star from an islated sand dune next to the ocean, no one speaks, no noises to disrupt the music of the earth. cheers blaze
Good to see a good response to music events. I will be going to Majors Creek this year. Gundagai Turning Waves festival is 16th to 18th September, The band I'm in "No Such Thing" is performing at the Colonial dress Ball. Then there is Bush Traditions at the Old Brewery in Goulburn 30thsept to 3rd Oct. Jamberoo "Folk in the foothills" Jamberoo Sunday 16th October. Kangaroo Valley Folk Fest 21st to 23 October, just to name a few. Enjoy good music
I enjoyed the Elvis festival a few years ago Pam .. it was great !!
.. in hindsight though, I suppose I was a little annoyed with so many 'wannabees' that were just trying to make their few pennies from the event .. but it was definitely worth seeing ..
get there early .. cheap camping in the showgrounds .. and also make a point of seeing 'Gracelands', which I believe is privately owned and not too far away .. sorry I missed that opportunity.
Hi Jon. If I can go, I will book into the Showground. I realise that I should do that ASAP so as not to miss out.
I've had a look on the net, and Graceland and a couple of other attractions are on my "to see" list. Thanks for the tip. I think that it's the kind of festival that I will probably only attend once, so will certainly make the most of it.
Seeing as you are in Forbes...if Graceland is open at this time of year...you could probably drive over there in about half an hour for a looksee.
As of today my favourite festival is the Wildflower Festival in Mullewa WA. The local people, who seem to be very few in number, put on an excellent display in their community hall, along with morning tea (including yummy home made cakes) and the town's historic buildings are all open with enthusiastic volunteer guides.
In a town where theres a lot of boarded up shop-fronts, its great to see such effort. They made visitors feel very wecome, we even found that wildflowers 40k's from town were clearly marked, and the dirt road had been recently graded.
Of course Mother Nature puts on the Main Event, the wildflowers are absolutely glorious!
Agree with you Gert. We were not there for the festival but found the locals very friendly. Found the map to the wreath flowers at the front of the closed General Store. Isn't the wreath flower amazing!!!!!!
